Cannot say I am too sad to see them go, should be all gone within 12 months

Australian Aviation Thread # 66 — Civil Aviation Forum | Airliners.net

VH-ZXB. It has a planned departure date from Australia on 11Dec12. at 0800hrs ex

Have they found buyers or just headed to the desert?

Will they be "stripped" in Aus or flown out as-is?

I'd love to see some of these retiring aircraft that are headed to the desert have a charter to their resting place.

How many plane spotters would love to be on a final leg with stopovers at a charter price? Eg. SYD-nan-hnl-Mohave? Never going to happen, but it would be fun to do...

Woohoo! Good riddance!

Many of my worst memories of travel on QF have been in relation to thee oft delayed ZX's ... especially my nemesis - ZXE

No directional air vents it the start of my litany of issues ...

(Sadly I still have a flight or two on these coming up [going by the seat maps].)

Looking at some things, it seem XB's last scheduled operational flight was QF494 last night - appropriately landing ½ hour late ...

The reliability of the ZX series was always wanting, but I am going to miss the 2-row mini cabin at the front of Y.

I think it would be somewhat sad to be frank, I have linked this blog before but certainly pilots feel that way sometimes:

Travel News You Can Use – United Pilot Says Goodbye to the 747

While we all like to cough about the old aircraft, at the same time its sad to see them head to the graveyard where they are more than likely to be broken up, at least some live on, like the current 762 Ex QF google jet etc.

Just saw on PPrune that the next one is going to Roswell via HNL - they were speculating it was junket for management...

You'd wonder if the 763er would have the legs for BNE-LAX or BNE-Mohave nonstop if fully empty/max fuel?

Ahh Old Faithful... I'll miss it actually as I flew this clunker from Syd-Mel few months ago. The old school tri light projector ahh... RIP

I sat in the mini Y cabin, kinda liked the 1920s retro feeling :) was only a short flight Syd-Mel and I slept most of the way :)

Hope you kept the leather coat and the flying goggles!! :D

My first flight in one was MEL to PER in that mini cabin - that was the highlight - it went down hill from there. :(

I have spent far too much ground time inside those ZX's.

As an example I boarded at MEL about fours years ago, push back was 70 minutes later!

If that did not convince, how about over two hours sitting on the tarmac at CNS in a full aircraft while ground crew worked at OPENING a cargo door to unload ex SYD freight; before loading ex CNS tonnage. No directional air-vents, the air-conditioning was struggling. The cabin smelt like most PAX had walked to the airport from town in the humid heat and were in good need of a shower. UGH!

The latter experience was enough for me to despise travel in those aging beasts - extra exit row space/mini cabin notwithstanding.

Sounds like my first two flights on the A380 ...

Flight 1: 80 min delay at MEL because the Electronic Flight Bag wouldn't load - missed by connection at LAX and had to standby with UA. Not pleasant.

Flight 2: 4hr delay at LAX because they couldn't get the toilets to pressurize. Flight "short shunted" at SYD as the crew were out of hours.

It's not always the age of the aircraft ...

Regards,

BD

And anther one's gone, another one's gone, another one bites the dust! Yay!:D
