"Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

Had that last week, damn nice. Well worth being last on the aircraft to have that meal.

Is this anything special and does anyone really think this an "enhancement" for the better? Not a fan of communal dining.

Any chance they can bring back normal party pies to the lounge?

Is this anything special and does anyone really think this an "enhancement" for the better? Not a fan of communal dining.

It's special, but is so limited that it is only of marginal benefit. The hours of operation are about 6pm to 7:30pm, not sure if it is on for lunch. So when I was on the 6:30 flight last week I was still eating when they did the second boarding call. I'm normally on the late flight so I've got to know the guy doing the serving pretty well, which worked well for him to rush me the meal. But effectively you could only do the island dining if on a flight after about 6:45.

Hmm - I havent flown out of SYD in the evening - just MEL/BNE and not experienced Island dining Just Island breakfast which is like regular breakfast but with cloth napkins...

Basically. There will be a menu, so look at that and decide if it suits you. No menu and it'll be a long wait for service. There is one guy serving the table and he is pretty proactive in asking if you want the dish. It does seem to get confusing as people also sit there to eat their pizza. That confusion can delay the service.

Nah. That just about perfect. They shutdown around 7:30 pm. The guy who normally serves is on holiday this week so it'll be interesting to see how it works.

Never flown out of MEL T1 in the evening since the implementation.

I only have 1 ex-MEL flight booked for between ~6-7:30pm.

Unfortunately I won't be able to try the island dining because I'm going to SYD for degustation at Rockpool.

I can only narrow it down to Thursday.
