"Island Dining" in the Domestic J lounges: Tips, Timing & Menus

Basically. There will be a menu, so look at that and decide if it suits you. No menu and it'll be a long wait for service. There is one guy serving the table and he is pretty proactive in asking if you want the dish. It does seem to get confusing as people also sit there to eat their pizza. That confusion can delay the service.

There was island dining at the MEL J Int lounge on my last visit. I sat at the island and waited for my order to be taken and then pointed to a free table in the corner and said "Can you bring it to me over there please?".

They didn't seem to mind.

Otherwise, you could always migrate to somewhere more comfortable after the food is brought to you?

I had the island dining experience in SYD last Friday. My party of 3 wrongly assumed it would be busy, so decided to beach ourselves at the island at 5:30. At 6pm sharp given menu and waiter asked if we would like to order and poured us a glass of wine. Most people in lounge stuck with the buffet.

Overall it's a nice touch. Hope there is a similar lunch time serving.

I have frequently and there is no similar menu that I have seen. I have just emailed the QP to ask when the service between MEL and SYD will be consistent.

Havent heard back but did get a call from QF asking me to call them re this...

I'm pretty friendly with the usually guy who does the serving and if he sees me he'll offer to bring the meal over to me. Not sure if he does this for everyone but the short answer is yes.

How'd you go last Thursday night?

What is that supposed to mean???

It means the Johnk is in an area that has high demand for hilal food. Not that it makes much difference as it is the same meat just killed in a certain way. I've never notice a difference in taste.... A pie is a pie ;)

Call back from QFF today - Island Dining is a lunch feature only in the MEL J lounge currently. No info on future plans.

Chestnut and something soup with "matched" Sauv-blanc last Thursday. More details to follow.

Indeed! Sparked by this topic I took a seat at the CBR island at midday today, filled with confidence because the table was setup with placemates, cutlery and napkins like in the SYD F Lounge. I waited, and waited, and then eventually asked a staff member who said "I have no idea what you're talking about."

The menu is the key thing. I did similar in SYD when this first came in. Slightly embarrassing going to the buffet after about 15 minutes. No menu, it's buffet time.

On the menu today we have "minestrone with smoky bacon & pesto" and the wine is 2008 Tollana Bin TR747 Pinot Noir ..... Yum:p

Sorry to raise an old thread... but now that I'm a more regular atendee of the J lounges, is the Island Dining still happening? How about up in BNE?

Is it just dinner, or are they doing a breakfast and lunch special as well?

I am usually in the BNE J lounge either Sunday or Monday nights at 6pm. I have never seen it or any sign of it in BNE.

There only seems to be the standard buffet food. At about 5:30pm the pizza comes out and a bit after that they will often have a curry or similar.
