Hi All,

I heard that you can upgrade a JASA to FASA for a small cash amount.

Can this be done online or do you have to call OF to organise the upgrade. Does anyone know how the cash amount is generally calculated?

Thanks

Never heard of this before.... 'small cash amount' is still likely to be in the thousands regardless of the route if it's even possible

Its done online by using the change option and selecting a FASA, believe its small when there is classic availability only.

I was quoted a price of $1,200 to upgrade my MEL-LHR JASA (U) fare to F.........subject to award seat availability in F.

I wonder if this attracts business or first status credits and frequent flyer points.

Just looked at a May 2011 JASA I have booked and it was $49,000 odd to go to F for HKG/LHR-also showed an amount for J which did not make sense

I assume HKG but logging in on Aust site & no clear signage- At that rate who cares anyway!

49k HGD = 6.2k AUD. So it makes a big difference, especially if that is for 2 people.

Managed to upgrade for $1200. They even managed to free-up some FASA seat for one of the routes (so kind of them)

The QF person I spoke to said I could use the MEL F Lounge on arrival (as I was transfering to QF Domestic to SYD). I didn't think you could use an international lounge as an arrival type lounge? Has anyone done this before?

No, you can't. You can't access the international departure lounge unless you're travelling.

Would they do an upgrade over the phone? Any experience here?

They do it over the phone - in fact that may be a better way to do it as

(a) The internet doesnt always allow you to do it
(b) The Customer Service Rep can free-up Award F seats to reduce the amount you have to pay for the upgrade. The person I spoke to was very very kind and helpful. Was actually really impressed with QF on that score.

Sorry to re-hash this thread.
Just called to try this on my JASA from MEL - SIN, there was P class availability showing on ExpertFlyer and on Qantas.com, but they said no can do :(

I'm SG so maybe only for WP??

Sorry to bring back an old thread.... has anyone done this successfully using the online "change flight" recently? I can only see business seats....

Just stumbled across this trick (via mention in another thread).

From reading through this thread it sounds like, apart from being able to use cash instead of points for the J -> F upgrade, it also allows you to essentially turn premium-desk-release-award-seats into an ASA - e.g. start with a JASA, get premium desk to release a F award seat, upgrade JASA to FASA (with cash), earn F points / SCs.

Is that correct?

It was working a couple of months back - I couldve gone to F for only hundred dollars by using the Change Flights option on a J Any Seat Award
