No Points/SC's earned for QF international

Hi folks,

I've recently completed a return trip Syd to Shanghai which I booked on the QF site during a sale. The flights were booked under Discount Economy so I had an expectation that I would earn 30SC's for each leg + FF points. Imagine my surprise and disappointment to discover that I didn't earn anything - 0 SC's and 0 points.

I've been in touch with the QFF Service Desk and after some investigation they called today to say that the fare was ineligible for either as it was booked under E which is classed as Employee Travel.

Has anyone else experienced this before? I always assumed that any booked made on the QF site for a QF flight would earn the minimum guarantee? I'm not too worried about the points but losing 60SC's which would've sent me Silver again is bitterly disappointing!

That does seem really odd.
 
What does your E-Ticket say?

I wondered about this yet most QF e ticket receipts I get are formatted such that they don't show a booking class, which is really irritating.

The older style ones QF res sometimes send out do, but the usual e-ticket receipts sent as PDF's don't tend to show the booking class, at least nowhere obvious I've ever seen.

At any rate they do say the fare type - and if the OP has retained the e-ticket receipt I wonder if that could be proof enough that it was a revenue, abeit sale fare, ticket which should earn.
 
I'd send a message to Red Roo with the booking reference and see if they can investigate further internally. Seems odd that a public booking was booked into a staff travel fare bucket.

A tool like My Flights on iPhone shows the booking fare class for Qantas bookings.

This. Really bizarre.

OP, you're absolutely sure you booked through the public-facing QF web site, and not inadvertently through an internal portal or link?

Interestingly E class is an eligible booking class for Domestic flights, but not international (I know the OP is talking about an international sector)

Simple answer is they cannot be staff travel as this is booked through a separate site, requires an employee number and password, and registration of eligible PAX prior to booking.
Definitely worth pursuing as QF claim all their fares earn points and SCs, and draw a distinction between this and the situation with other OW carriers such as QR.
 
I can confirm QF has previously offered sale fares in E class for international, notably Asia destinations most recently (a few months back). It's likely it was from this sale as there hasn't been any other times recently where E class has been used.

So I wonder if these sale fares were dirt cheap and actually indicated 0 points earning. I've never heard of a QF sold commercial fare that doesn't earn, but if they indicated zero earning at time of booking and/or on the e-ticket receipt then you'd have to cop it. It does seem unusual.
 
I don't see any reason you shouldn't have earned points & SCs. It may well be the case that "E" class doesn't earn anything, but this fare class should never have been sold to you in the first place if you booked on the Qantas website! I would be following this up with Qantas... very poor indeed.

Qantas has never, as far as I'm aware, sold commercial fares to the public that are advertised as not earning points & SCs.
 
My E-ticket doesn't mention anything about not earning. I was previously under the impression that all QF flights earn due to the minimum points guarantee. I'm in the process of emailing Mr Roo and will let you all know how I go.

Do you work for QF? Or are you a staff travel beneficiary of any of your family members who work for QF?
 
E isn't just employee travel. You can book this class as the cheapest red e-deal for both international or domestic. I have also been stung by this.
 
Correct teamham! I've emailed Mr Roo attaching a transcript of a chat I had with a QF agent who stated I would earn points/sc's on any flight booked through the QF site. I've asked that due to the inconsistent information coming from QF that they credit me the standard Discount Economy entitlements for the return flights - 60 SC's and 5200 points also asking if they had any plans to list the class during the booking process to avoid any situations like this in the future thus avoiding brand damage/reputation etc
 
When you made the booking, did you see a box like this on the Qantas website telling you how many points & status credits would be earned?

As well as what Mattg says above, also before completing the sale there is an information page which shows whether or not points and credits are earnt on the booking. IIRC it is a page which shows that info, cancellation and changes policy etc. If you had read this page you would have known prior to payment what you would be receiving.

I probably wouldn't have checked. I assumed all QF revenue fares sold on the website earned FF points.
