Just logged into my Optus account online to view a bill and saw a notice that they will be ending their partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer on 30 June! Bit of a bugger, I had all my home/mobile/internet services with Optus anyway back a few years when they started the partnership, so was great to earn many 10's of thousands of points just for being a customer over the last couple of years they had this program!! Will be sad to see it go!!!

This was the text of the notice from this page: Optus | Qantas

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH QANTAS FREQUENT FLYER IS ENDING 30 JUNE, 2015
As part of a new direction we're taking for Optus Yes Rewards, we need to let you know that our partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer will be ending 30 June, 2015. That means after 30 June you'll no longer be able to earn Qantas Points on your Optus products.

What happens until it closes?

You will continue to earn points as you currently do, for payments right up until (and including) the 30 June, 2015. We'd also like to let you know there's no change to the Qantas Points you've already earned or when they expire. You can view your points balance and expiry at any time by logging into qantas.com.au/points.

We hope you are enjoying other benefits we've introduced over the last couple of years such as plans with improved inclusions for calls and data, much lower fees for excess data, and upgrades to our network. We look forward to other improvements and benefits we can provide you in the future.

If you need some more details about what these changes mean we've listed some frequently asked questions below. And if you'd like to speak with our customer care team you can use webchat now or if you want to speak to someone we've set up a dedicated customer support line for you on 1300 720 084.

Thanks for that.
I will still keep Optus prepaid, but will recharge by other means from now on.
BUT we can still gain, if we use Optus prepaid and buy recharge vouchers from BP/OTR, we can earn VR/VA FF rewards points, at a better rate that what QF offers in tandem with Optus!
For some 3 points per $1 still, for some 2.5 points per $1 spent.
Or jump from Optus to Virgin post paid, and earn points that way with VR/VA FF.
Change of alliances from QF to VR/VA FF it will mean of course.

Remember when QF and EDR started their partnership, and we all "though" that Coles might partner with VR FF/VA FF...
But it never eventuated.
Still can recharge at Coles and earn some meaningless twaddly FlyBuy points, and 0.5 points/1 point per $1 spent with VGW/QCC/other credit cards.
All the info is under "rewards" on the Optus website.
They are cunning enough to hide the information away, and its not obvious on their website, ie, the information in regards to the changes is not in mega huge print on the first page of their website, but hidden away.

Balls! That little earn kept Mrs_O's account ticking over. If Vodafone step in, that will suit me nicely or if Telstra/Bigpond step in and the earn extends to landlines/internet that would also suit :).

To reconfirm the OP - Optus and Qantas Frequent Flyer have today announced they will not renew their partnership when it expires on 30 June 2015.

We know our members have valued the opportunity to earn Qantas Points with a telco, so Qantas is certainly exploring different options in that space.

I just saw this in an email received this morning from Optus. The way they talk about it, they make it sound like one of their many "improvements".

Also included in the email was something about receiving a 'bonus' 500 QFF points at the end of July, if both Optus and QF accounts are still active. I guess a sort of grand finale, so to speak, before they do away with us :p

Any why would they splash this front and centre of their web site?

Just got the email, and I'm lucky enough to be getting 4000 'bonus' points.... I have 8 phones on the account so it may be 500 per number

Thanks Red Roo. But partnering with other telcos doesn't help those who have contracted with Optus, does it.

Mrs SydneySwan tried for years to collect QF points on her Optus account but without success. They always told her her account was ineligible - something to do with special business rates that were no longer available although their reasoning tended to vary a fair amount even once being told she was not with Optus (despite the monthly bill she received from them). So if QF do enter a partnership with a new telco partner that is likely to be a plus for our family with Telstra / Bigpond definitely the preferred option.

I am a current optus customer and earning points.. I didn't know about this ending until I read it here.. it is sad to see it end but I am about to leave optus too.. so lets hope it is Telstra where I can keep earning points!! :)

Telstra has no bonus partners with the airlines directly, unless you count Flybuys, and then use that to get a Webjet discount, 10,000 FB points giving $50 or is it $100 off your fare, ...
Virgin Mobile post paid will be your best friend, Virgin Mobile post paid will earn directly with VR.
If with prepaid, go BP for your recharge, and as I waffled earlier above, earn VR points from it.
Edit: for Eminere: if it wasnt for the OP mentioning it on here, and it hidden away on the Optus website, then who would have been the wiser.
Noting of course that Optus/QF **might** put on ads later on in the press.
Of course RR would have put it on here and someone would have mentioned it on AusBT.

Shame the relationship is ending.

Still no notification from either Optus or Qantas.
