Optus to cease offering QFF points as of 30/06/15

A friend of mine has Optus pre paid and is also an Everyday Rewards and QFF member. When the Optus offer came out we signed up and linked the QFF account to the Optus mobile number. Unfortunately the email changed in the meantime and we haven't updated the account so I don't know if there was any offer of bonus points. I hope the offer doesn't have to be activated and the points will just arrive. The points were just an added bonus. They weren't the reason my friend kept the Optus phone number.
The bonus points were specified in both the email from Optus and the email from QFF. In my case, two different email addresses. There is no mention of any activation requirement to receive the bonus points. The email from QFF states "You will continue to earn points on payments made up to and including 30 June 2015, and in addition, you will receive xx_X bonus points~ from Optus. Your bonus points will be applied to your account by the end of July."

~ Bonus Qantas Points for Qantas Frequent Flyer members who receive an email communication indicating that they will receive bonus Qantas Points will be automatically credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account by 31 July 2015 - so long as the Optus account and service that's earning Qantas Points is still active

Thank you to NM and AustraliaPoochie and the other members for the information on the bonus points. I will check with my friend tomorrow about what emails they received from QFF about the situation.

Wow, Vodafone prepaid mobile data $200 giving 22GB, now thats huge.
OR $125 for 15GB, saving $5 off from Optus also 15GB.
Optus mobile broadband is $130 for 17.25GB if recharged online.

Vodafone mobile broadband is cr@p. Oh and Optus not much better. Telstra the best but too expensive.

Are these "Bonus Points Emails" being distributed to those who pre-pay or on Contracts?

Optus are surely going to loose tens of thousands of customers due to this announcement, maybe not immediately in July, but when individual customers contracts expire.

We are on contract and haven't received anything. I'd say prepaid only are receiving them as we are locked in.

I am not pre-paid customer with Optus. The mobile phone is post-paid but out of contract. The home phone/internet is also well out of contract and now month to month.

Actually I am now finding Vodafone is quite OK.In Geraldton for some reason it worked a lot better than Telstra.I have since used it in Burnie and now Broken hill without a problem.Much easier to manage than Telstra.

I get better performance on Vodafone than SWMBO does on Optus.

Final note from me on this...
For now might be easier for be to keep Optus for my prepaid mobile and broadband but recharge with BP/OTR.
No need to do the proof of ID malarkey again.
That said if VA drops BP one day years later, then will port numbers.
VA and BP agreement came at just the right time.
And gaining VR points not only on fuel is a plus.

You don't get points on buying recharge cards at BP.

Velocity Points will not be earned on selected purchases, including but not limited to smoking/tobacco products and accessories, lottery tickets, prepaid mobile phone cards, gift cards, or for fuel or in store purchases paid for by Excluded Payment Methods.

Same here. I would say the Vodafone network is far better than Optus now.
Their HD Voice is much better than scratchy voice on Optus too.

Not so, this is home phone/internet/Pay TV for us, our phones are with other providers.

Agree drron -- ASX delisting is the most likely driver for this decision by Optus/Singtel.

Convenient timing more like it. Almost exactly 4 years and likely in line with initial contracts. Just because they're de-listing doesn't mean Optus isn't going to continue business. Nobody kills off a commercial relationship that drives revenue just for the sake of it. So either Optus doesn't feel they need QFF as a carrot to lure customers, or there's something much larger (ie: Optus wants to put all energy into their existing loyalty program).

For now might be easier for be to keep Optus for my prepaid mobile and broadband but recharge with BP/OTR.

Do what medhead says, recharge at woolies and get EDR (QFF) + CC points. I've made well over 150K QFF points doing this - works a treat! Woolies religiously have 10-15% off mobile recharge vouchers twice/year. Stock up at certain times for big savings!
