After the recent announcement of yet another QF enhancement on EK flights I started thinking of all the other things that either failed to happen or have been withdrawn after AJ's grand announcement that the EK-QF partnership would bring us the best of both airlines. This has, sadly, not been the case with far too many QF enhancements and failure to implement. It would be interesting (to me at least) to create a list of what has been gained and lost. All the more so as it is my understanding that the ACC allowed the partnership on the basis that the best of both would be offered (happy to be corrected if this is not the case). Regardless AJ put it in print in the in flight mag that we would always get the better deal.

Herewith the start of the list:

1 55% decrease in checked baggage allowance: was 4 x 32 kg, now 60 kg (J & WP)
2 loss of common-rated destinations when travelling via LHR (yes I know some do not like LHR but I need to stop in London so this is real downside to me)
3 loss of BA JSA
4 no premium economy on EK
5 loss of QFi metal from PER, ADL, BNE etc
6 loss of stopover in HKG, SIN, BKK w onward flights direct to Europe using QFi or QF codeshare
7 massive loss of SC & FF points when flying partner airlines (& loss of codeshare on these flights)
(some might argue that 6 & & 7 are not EK-QF partnership issues but the loss of the BA JSA, the CX codeshare etc followed on from this)
8 no pork (e.g. bacon) on QF1, 2, 9, 10 (a cooked breakfast without bacon???)
9 no alcohol in the food (so how can it be called a trifle?)
10 progressive winding back of QFF earning on EK flights
11 increase in prices (there were some great deals immediately after the tie up but these are just a distant memory)
12 CD: great if flying Aus-LHR but we were promised progressive roll out on all long haul routes.
13 loss of QFi to FRA

Or you can always fly someone else. It's not as if the EK/QF JSA is the only offering, between Australia and Europe at least.

Seriously the complaints about pork and. alcohol inside food are just ridiculous. Did Qantas promise to always serve pork on every flight? Is that actually a broken promise? Get a grip

I happen to like pork. "Having hoofs it's hard to come to grips".

Point taken about qantas not promising pork on your fork on every flight. So, Maybe not a broken promise but certainly another food choice causing controversy. Because location of the stop or religious beliefs. My two pence,

Two of my biggest issues with the QF/EK alliance (neglecting QFi total abandonment of PER) are not being able to upgrade with points and not being able to buy and/or preallocate an exit row seat on EK (even as a P1).

I could do both of these things when PER was served by QFi.

14. Removal of QP access (as QP member) when flying on EK flight number.

However much I appreciate your effort, I fear the Toothless Tiger (aka ACCC) will just rollover when the Alliance is up for renewal. We need Tony Abbott chairing it!!

BD

Agreed! He has a solid record in effective leadership and pork barrelling so he might even bring the bacon back.

Seriously if these "broken promises" are an issue take your business elsewhere. Doesn't need regulator intervention.

I do take my business elsewhere. It is a shame as I would rather support a local business. The point is that AJ promised to give us the best the options available. In reality we have EK offerings on both airlines and what was better on QFi has been lost. For many the loss of QFi services markedly reduces the options available (e.g. if you do not fly from SYD or MEL you can no longer fly QF to Europe). I have friends who will not/cannot fly via the middle east so QFi is no longer an option for them either

Loads of benefits from the tie-up too - at least for me personally:

1. Fly the A380 BNE to LHR (and many other destinations) while earning QF SCs all the way - no need to backtrack to MEL or SYD
2. Cheap TT status runs in EK J / F
3. Best TT Y product now comes with QF SCs
4. Can redeem QF points on EK network while still being able to redeem across all of OW
5. Provides ready access to one of the best F products - thanks to the tie-up I have now showered at 35000 ft :)
6. No bacon in QF1, QF9, QF10 breakfasts (I hate bacon :) )
7. Avoid the hell-hole that is LHR when heading to other European destinations (with overall shorter total travel time too)

Personally while I'd prefer to be able to stop in HKG or SIN, overall, the EK tie-up is a win for me. I still have no trouble "manufacturing" stop-offs in SIN / HKG using QFi returns and then other OW returns from SIN / HKG.

I think the tie-up is working well and delivering real benefits to QF.

While I enjoyed watching Pauline Hanson squirm last night on Q&A and am certainly not the slightest bit worried about Halal, I do see the value in serving all types of food, depending on what your guest wants, rather than imposing only particular types.

If I'm flying First and want a bacon roll for breakfast, why shouldn't I? They're already serving it with a glass of Champagne.

When Jews or Muslims come to Australia to fly Qantas they're not forced to have the breakfast with bacon, there's a second or third choice. Likewise I wouldn't expect a Hindu to be forced to eat beef.

All said though, I just sigh and get in with life, it's just another over reach of political correctness.

That's an interesting point, because while under the old BA JSA the same thing happened... they just renamed their Lounge's from Terraces to Galleries.

Its not qantas' fault your friends are anti-arab...

Sad they are missing out on a pretty lovely place to transit.

You have completely missed the point here and gone back to anti-talk.

Sand and more sand yeah I miss it thanks, that's why these same arabs are Immigrating to Germany and Europe because it's so lovely in the Middle East.

I don't need to walk through the sand in transit through DXB. Usually im sipping champagne in one of the best first class lounge facilities on earth.

There are fantastic ( even better) first class lounges in Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, with even better champagne. I prefer to transit through these not DXB. Sheik you. Without having to worry about bacon or no bacon 4 breakfast. Or a second class citizen for that matter.

I'm sorry, in what universe is a bacon sanie not allowed on board. The only restriction is that they will not provide dishes that include pork, etc. That means steak and bacon pie, for example. No reason a stand allow pork or bacon dish can't be served.
