With tomorrow's rather gloomy announcements about Qantas would it be a good idea to cash out all my ~100k of Qantas Points?

(On the assumption that they'll devalue them tomorrow)

I don't see any changes to the FF system before they sell part of it.

Whether there are any routes left to redeem on tomorrow is another matter

It really depends on what you're saving them for... presumably not a booking within the next year?

The carnage if Qantas devalued their FF program would be an ugly sight to see. Virgin wouldn't be able to cope with the exodus. I can't see it happening any time soon.

I'll happily take them off your hands if you think cashing them out is the thing to do :p

But no... I don't see any need to burn points.

I was lucky and had plans for this year so I have burnt 860K of points.....probably 150K of what I booked would have been paid in cash if not for the unrest....will see what happens but don't think panic buying is needed as QFF is profitable

I believe MEL_traveller mentioned in another thread that the T&C's of the QFF program say that some prior notice must be given before any change? Can anyone confirm? Was this the case in the previous devaluation?

Buy toasters
Lots of toasters

I have burnt about 800k of points over the past week on a few F trips and J trips

Worst case I cancel and get the points back
Best case I enjoy the flights

Burnt just over 600k on the weekend. Let's hope that QF9/10 actually survives for my FASA bookings.

I've burnt around 350,000 in the last week + another 200,000 in the past 8 weeks - still have a couple of M in the QFF bank and I'm not worried. How much do you want for them?

You don't have to buy lots of toasters to burn all those points - probably two :)

You can get a pretty snazzy sewing machine for around 160k points. Or even better value is a two person tent for 20k - perfect to use in the terminal when the lounges are closed down.

sewing machine to make your own tent ?

don't forget the dehydrated supplies....just add water...might still be free

Dropped 834k on 3 x CX J PER-JFK-PER flights for later this year. I assume they'll survive even if QFF is drastically altered.

I am also not sure what to do.. despite I only have 13,000 points

I cannot see them upsetting the "loyalty" program for the time being as it sells the concept that you can earn points almost anywhere with the promise of the elusive free flight (or upgrade). Its goodwill, and therefore the value of the program, is based on the continuity of the benefits but those benefits maybe what they change if and when they seek to sell off part or all of the program. For the time being the points are safe but what they will buy in time is the great unknown. I am more concerned with how and how soon they will downgrade the service in the lounges and in the air and whether they tighten the availability of award flights, making the program progressively less attractive to be part of.
