Should I be cashing out my Qantas points?

I cannot see them upsetting the "loyalty" program for the time being as it sells the concept that you can earn points almost anywhere with the promise of the elusive free flight (or upgrade). Its goodwill, and therefore the value of the program, is based on the continuity of the benefits but those benefits maybe what they change if and when they seek to sell off part or all of the program. For the time being the points are safe but what they will buy in time is the great unknown. I am more concerned with how and how soon they will downgrade the service in the lounges and in the air and whether they tighten the availability of award flights, making the program progressively less attractive to be part of.

Convert to toasters and collect them in a myriad array of colours !

I believe MEL_traveller mentioned in another thread that the T&C's of the QFF program say that some prior notice must be given before any change? Can anyone confirm? Was this the case in the previous devaluation?

Yes. The T&Cs say three months' notice for a change Qantas has control over; one month for other changes. That said, it's not always strictly adhered to.

Thanks for replying Danger. Can you give us an example of when it was not 'adhered to' in recent times?

BA lounge access for QC members??

Maybe QC has different T&C's.. or QF can argue that they had no control over it.. (BA decided to withdraw access)..

I'm surprised they have gone against the T&C's of the Frequent flyer program tbh.. I would definitely at least give some feedback if something like a massive devaluation happened overnight. UA was nice enough to give members 3 months to empty their accounts.. :)

The argument for that is did QF have control over that chabge

Lots of conjecture over this one - I agree that BA probably ended it on the spot. However, IIRC QF or QFF didn't bother to inform their paid members. They relied on the lounge dragons enforcing the change.......poor bloody form all round!

I hope you are right and I am looking at my options too

Yes you should be cashing them out. Over the past few months I've swapped all my direct earn Qantas CC's to Bank rewards programs that will allow me to transfer to SQ/VA etc.. Much better availability and with VA no fuel surcharges with QF are just ridiculous.
