I clicked your link. It is only 90000 points for $1200. Way too expensive. The Velocity Platinum Amex offer of 110000 points for $349 (see link below) is still better bet:

EDIT: Yes it looks like the issue is with my Google Chrome Browser as M@rcoPolo mentioned, even with cache clearing it still showing old 90K offer. After opening a new browser, it shows 120K.

So I would say the for any applicant, they should compare 2 offers and make their own decisions on which card to apply on the table below:

I clicked your link. It is only 90000 points mate.

Clear your cache or open in another browser - 90,000 points was the previous offer (expired 31/7) 120,000 is the new offer (expires 31/10). Referral link is the same but the offer has been updated as above.

My friend just texted me about this so here it is for me as well. When I click it, seems to show up with the correct 120k.

Seems like an incredible deal but be sure to check the T&Cs. It does mention a minimum spend of $1000, which is higher than the usual $500 from the previous Amex deals.

FYI: Offer valid until 31 October 2015

The Velocity Platinum Amex offer of 110000 points for $349 is still better bet

You are comparing apples with pears...

e.g. 110k Velocity points convert to 80k Singapore Airlines points = return flight in ECONOMY to Singapore
120k Membership Rewards points convert to 120k Singapore Airlines points = return flight in BUSINESS CLASS to Singapore

Anyway besides the bonus points, there's a long list of benefits ($200 travel credit, Elite status with several hotel chains, Unlimited access to Virgin Australia lounges for 2ppl, 2 x Priority Pass with access to 700 airport lounges worldwide, better Travel and Purchase protection insurance, Unlimited access to the AMEX lounge at Sydney International Airport, etc) that are included with the AMEX Charge Platinum ONLY...

There's definitely no doubt the 120k Amex MR points are worth much more than the 110k VA points.

I guess this is expected with the big difference is the annual fee of the two cards, however in saying that, I make more than $1200 back every year on savings through the FHR program alone.

I've got an upcoming stay at the Peninsula Bangkok in August where FHR is covering the 3rd night's rate under a promo, which nets me a saving of $600 already. Also made use of a similar offer at the Four Seasons Pudong in Shanghai not too long ago and I saved around $800 from that hotel too. I would've spent this money on these hotels regardless of the promo so in this sense, this alone covers my $1200 annual fee this year and anything I get on top of that really is just a bonus...

Nice! I usually use the free night that comes with Accor Advantage Plus at the Sofitel Sydney or Sofitel Melbourne so that's another lazy $300 of additional value :)

Is there any way of getting the bonus points if you have an Amex Gold charge card already?

Dale.

The current VA card offer is NOT knocking people back for already having a direct AMEX card, so it may be relevant for this card too. I would phone AMEX and ask to ensure you don't get an unnecessary credit file query with no ensuing card issued.

I guess if you call AMEX you'll get the standard reply from the T&Cs (existing AMEX cardholders do not qualify) - however if you cancel the card AMEX would refund the yearly fee pro-rata... so probably best tactic would be to use the $200 travel credit in the first month and if the bonus points don't post cancel the card and you'll still be in front...

I think the 120k is much more useable as a first class one way to europe on sing air suites!!!

Indeed - First Class one way to Europe on Singapore Airlines is 135,000 Krisflyer points however with online redemptions you get a 15% discount so that comes down to 112,625 points.

BTW another great way to use the 120k bonus points is to fly First Class return to Tokyo with JAL by transferring the 120k points to AsiaMiles (Cathay Pacific) and then booking with JAL (AsiaMiles is very flexible and allows you to book with multiple
airlines). As a comparison, Qantas will charge you 114,000 Qantas Points for a one way First Class redemption!!

JAL just launched their First Class on the Sydney to Tokyo route and there's plenty of awards availability as reported by Point Hacks HERE.

I already have an AMEX Charge Platinum so I cannot go for this mad offer but I'd be grateful if you could use my AMEX Charge Platinum referral for 120k MR point :)

Throwing my cap in the ring.

I have had this card for a few years now. Initially I thought we pocket the then 80,000 bonus point offer and cancel the card after a year. The price went from $900 to $1200 p/a but I have really enjoyed the benefits and value from this card.
Just to describe how we have used it:-
Have LOVED the hotel loyalty benefits.
Mainly have used Le Club Platinum, SPG Gold and Fine Hotels and Resorts.(There are others!) Have enjoyed fantastic room upgrades. Early checks ins and late check outs, free drinks, free internet, chauffeur airport transfers (Grand Hyatt Melbourne with FHR) and generally felt exceptionally well looked after on our family holidays of late. Looking forward to the newly on board Shangri-la benefits on an upcoming trip to Fiji.
Free night and discounted dining at Accor hotels using the Accor Advantage membership. We usually redeem our free night at the Soffitel Brisbane and I hear you can now get access to the Lounge here too!
The fact we can collect both Qantas and Velocity points on this card at 1:1 transfer rates (plus the other 8 airlines you can transfer to).
$200 travel credit.
Travel insurance.
Virgin Lounge access:-)
Priority Pass Lounge access for OS travel.
Last minute restaurant bookings through the concierge service for hard to get into restaurants.
Free bottle of wine at certain restaurants.
Cheaper car rental with upgrades.
I always check the departures Magazine they send you as well as the Amex site as offers always keep popping up! Have collected some fantastic bonus points offers and other discounts this way.
Anyhow enough raving. Here is my referral link

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

You can choose up to 7 major airlines to direct your points to.

You can actually transfer your points to a choice of 10 airline programs, list is below...

1. Qantas Frequent Flyer
2. Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer
3. Emirates Skywards
4. Etihad Guest
5. Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
6. Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
7. Air New Zealand Airpoints
8. THAI Royal Orchid Plus
9. Malaysia Airlines Enrich
10. Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

The list of airlines you can redeem points with is even longer - e.g. with Cathay Pacific (Asia Miles) you can use your 120,000 bonus points for a return First Class flight to Tokyo with JAL. In my opinion this is one of the best ways to use the bonus points.

just got approved using your link. enjoy the points - send me something nice!

Thanks mate :) So let me indeed send you something nice... what about a free flight? :) Read on...

Up to about a year ago AMEX use to give to every Platinum Charge cardholder a free AMEX Platinum Reserve card (they waved the $349 annual fee) - the card wasn't as good as the Platinum Charge (no major perks, less comprehensive travel insurance) and you had to apply for it separately (meaning you had to complete another application form asking all the usual questions) but came with a free return Virgin Australia flight every year on a number of domestic routes as well as to New Zealand from SYD / MEL / BNE.

AMEX has since pulled the plug on the Platinum Reserve (probably replaced by the Velocity Platinum Card) and no longer advertise a free companion card with the Charge Platinum, however the "old" Platinum Charge cardholders are still enjoying the free Reserve and the free yearly flights that come with it. Although AMEX has pull all information about the Reserve from their website new applicants to the Platinum Charge have been successful (a friend of mine did it about 3 months ago) calling AMEX and asking for an application form for the free Reserve card to be emailed to them.

I cannot guarantee this is still working but give it a go (after your receive and activate your Platinum Charge). Tell them your mate at work has the free Reserve and you want the same. Be polite but firm. Good luck and post the outcome on AFF ;)
