This is a new deal and the highest i have seen for this excellent card.

Summary

- $99 Annual fee
- 40,000 MR points = 20,000 SPG
- No spend requirements in dollar terms, you just need to spend 3 times OUTSIDE of David Jones.
- David Jones benefits include free delivery, gift wrapping, member only discounts, free supplementary card for the first year (good for AMEX OFFERS)

How do i use this card?

1) Convert 40,000 MR to 20,000 SPG and i intend to convert to American Airlines AA points in ~September each year when they have their bonus whereby 20,000 SPG = 30,000AA. This is a great way to get started with SPG which transfers to many partners.
2) Any David Jones spend
3) Amex Offers such as Shop Small etc

I get 15,000 points for a referral and you get 40,000 vs the current 30,000 points on offer.

NB - if you have held a David Jones Amex card in the last 18 months you are likely to be exempt from this offer. However if you have a non David Jones Amex you are still eligible. Refer T&C's in offer link and take a copy before you apply.

You should have some points coming through.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

What's the difference to the Platinum card...better value for points?

I assume you can get the usual additional 4 supplementary cards?

I haven't had this card for a few years, but it was good value when I did. When I did the maths this card worked out better value than the DJ Plat for my usage.

I had 3 supplementary cards on this one, but if I remember rightly it had a funny $30 fee for all supplementary cards. Which I think only applied after the first 12 months (ie 1 year free for each supplementary card).

Platinum David Jones $295 - 50,000 signon bonus, refer - http://amex.com.au/refer/ritamoXz3?CPID=100204837
- 4x points at DJs
- Sydney Lounge Access (Amex)
- both cards get free supplementary cards in first year

The standard DJ Amex $99 option is the best value at 40,000 signon

If you need SPG points quickly tho id happily pay $295x2 for 50,000+50,000+20,000 if you refer one of the cards. 60,000 SPG will get you 75,000 AA normal / 90,000 AA during the promotion mentioned above. Id happily pay $590 for 90,000 AA points!

Edit - i should mention that its probably best to start on the $99 Standard DJ AMEX card and then hope AMEX like you enough to offer the upgrade to Platinum promo. Whilst its a paid upgrade, they offer the 50,000 signon bonus(or whatever bonus there is at the time) even if you have had the bonus before. So as an example you could potentially get the 40,000 now and then in 6-9 months time get an upgrade offer. This happened to me and AMEX being the awesome company that they are also pro rata refunded my $99 annual fee (without me asking!), but i guess i will be paying them $295 shortly.

A quick update on welcome bonuses / offers:

- spend $30 get $10 back Woolworths
- spend $40 get $15 back David Jones

Points showed up the next business day after the 3rd transaction.

Referral link will get you 40,000 points (and 15,000 to referrer) - http://amex.com.au/refer/B98g2

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Can these points be transferred to Velocity.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

They can go 2 Amex points = 1 of the following (ie half)

Velocity, Asia Miles, Krisflyer, Etihad, Malaysia Enrich, Emirates, Thai, however these arent as attractive rates as SPG in my opinion and definitely not on an ongoing basis vs the Amex Edge etc.

This card is really about the initial bonus

To give a comparison of signon bonus:
Amex Edge has 10,000 usually which gets you 5000 SPG for $195 (note it also has a $200 travel credit however for some that isnt worth it)
DJ Amex 40,000 = 20,000 SPG for $99

For ongoing spend another Amex card would be better like the Edge or Explorer etc.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

I'm only after the 20K Velocity pts for $99. I have other cards to use for normal spend.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

In that case you should still transfer to SPG

SPG offers 5000 bonus for 20,000

So you will get 25,000 Velocity for $99 via SPG.

Sign up to SPG now if you havent already as i believe you need to wait 30 days before you can transfer.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

locopano.

Used you link so if approved some bonus pts are heading your way. I am an SPG member so I will hopefully end up with 25,000 Velocity pts for $99.

Thanks.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Should you want 40,000 DJ MR Points (converts to SPG at 2:1, so for a total of 20,000 SPG points which can be handy to upgrade a Marriott Flights & Nights redemption 2 categories), please consider using my link:

http://amex.com.au/refer/chrisrHOMf

Full disclosure: I get 15,000 points for referring you, but you get an extra 10,000 compared to not using a referral link.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

This is great offer for topping up on SPG points for that next hotel stay or putting towards a Marriott Travel Package.

Key features:

- 40k Membership Rewards Points = 20k SPG Points
- 3 MR ppd at Supermarkets and Petrol Stations / 2 MR ppd at David Jones / 1 MR ppd everywhere else
- Free giftwrapping with David Jones
- Free delivery on online orders with David Jones
- Annual Fee: $99

At $99 for 40k MR / 20k SPG points it's a half the points of the Amex Explorer offer but for a quarter of the price! (Albeit with no Travel Credit)

My fiancé and I would be extremely appreciative of anyone who uses this link as the points will go towards travel for our Honeymoon. We receive a 15k point referral bonus for your successful application.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Received the card last week. Purchased 1 coke, 1 Cheeseburger, 1 shake in separate transactions = $7.95. Points accredited as soon as spend posted. Transferred to Starwoods, paid card bill, cancelled card today.

All before the annual fee appeared.

Does that mean that I have dodged the $99 AF? Has anyone else had this happen?

Happy regardless but that 25000 Velocity points for $7.95 (plus some coughpy fast food) makes things even sweeter.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Dr Ralph, from my experience you don't have to pay the annual fee if you cancel before it arrives. I usually do for good karma but that's another story.

The terms have changed slight whereby you still get 40,000 points but the referrer gets 20,000.

So if you get a card for yourself +1 then you would net 100,000 AMEX / 50,000 SPG

No. I cancelled and there was no mention about adding the annual fee to the account before I could close it. I have checked the account since cancellation and there is no annual fee showing.

The transfer through SPG for the extra 5,000 Velocity points worked seamlessly as well so all in all thanks to this thread it was another 25,000pts for free. Plus one poster on here got some points for the link.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Thanks for the link. I applied today. I intend to cancel my other Amex Card for this as it seems to favour my current spending patterns. Am I correct in thinking that the sign up bonus offer on this card is not excluded by owning a previous AMEX card?

Hopefully approved quickly and I can add a new referral.
