    SYD airport hotel or city?

I'm actually going to waitlist a flight with SQ to Cape Town directly from Melbourne. If it clears I will cancel my Qantas redemption as it saves me a flight to Sydney and a domestic flight in South Africa. 99000 Krisflyer points isn't a bad deal to go all the way to Cape Town from Melbs.

    SYD airport hotel or city?

Yep. My mother used to stay at the nicer airport hotels in her own city for early next-morning departures or late night arrivals for her many travels. It depends on whether you can afford it. Since COVID, however, despite staying healthy, she's been almost completely house-bound and has never...

    SYD airport hotel or city?

Yep. Thinking about Rydges, I have Star Alliance Gold so I can get a light dinner at the VA lounge the night before anyway.

    SYD airport hotel or city?

OK, bit the bullet and redeemed SYD-JNB in J, Thursday 15 June. Last time I caught an international flight in SYD I stayed at the Aerotel, but that was an introductory special, and now the price for a night has increased significantly. I'm coming from Melbourne and really don't want to have to...

Cheap flights coming? - China’s back

I once flew Air China in Y en route to the US. On that flight, I became thirsty. I asked the stewardess if I could please have a glass of water. She simply answered "No" without even looking at me.

My 2023 trip - Israel, South Africa, USA

I've just discovered that a particular cruise leaving Europe for the USA fits right into my schedule and would tick several items off my bucket list. However it would mean that I would only get ~ 16 days in total to spend in South Africa and Israel/Jordan collectively. I'm just wondering is it...

2 weeks in Japan - looking for ideas

When I was in the main cities of Japan in August, I nearly collapsed from heat stroke. The humidity was horrendous. However, the northern island of Hokkaido was lovely and that was where I spent the bulk of my time, it is a very underrated destination, less remote than people think by Australian...

    London to Paris/Brussels by Eurostar

I booked a through train from London to Cologne via German railways, in 1st class ostensibly, but I still found myself in second class for the Eurostar portion. Wasn't impressed

2 weeks in Japan - looking for ideas

My suggestion is to save Kyoto/Osaka/Nara as the finale of your trip. I definitely found those more "traditionally" Japanese than any other. Hiroshima definitely worth a visit, as well as nearby Miyajima - only about one and a half hours away via bullet train. September is late summer rather...

Vetrade: one might see some mummified samples of the Greatest Animal of All in Egypt too!

My 2023 trip - Israel, South Africa, USA

Given that the Qantas flight arrives in JNB at 3.40 in the arvo, when is the earliest I should schedule a domestic flight to CPT? Should I drive to Stellenbosch that evening or is there an acceptable airport hotel in Cape Town?

My 2023 trip - Israel, South Africa, USA

A day trip is theoretically possible from Amman but not Tel Aviv. There are now only two flights a day in each direction from Tel Aviv to Cairo compared to about nine from Amman, and they only give about a 3-hour layover in Cairo. The Grand Egyptian Museum has no projected opening date and it...

My 2023 trip - Israel, South Africa, USA

Thanks everyone for your advice. A couple of nights at a private reserve in greater Kruger definitely seems much more pleasant than staying the same time in Johannesburg. Re: Middle East - is it plausible to do a day trip from Tel Aviv or Amman to Cairo to see the pyramids? Also, is July too...

My 2023 trip - Israel, South Africa, USA

Thank you vetrade - I do like driving, went on a VERY long roadtrip in the Western US but the mileage was just too long. Don't know if I want to do it again for six hours a day! I'm very much looking forward in South Africa to spotting some species of the Greatest Team of All. On my last trip I...

My 2023 trip - Israel, South Africa, USA

Thank you all for your suggestions!! I've thought about this trip a bit more and have a few more ideas: (1) Being time limited, would it be okay to visit one of the game resorts closer to Pretoria rather than going to Kruger? Is there a minimum practical number of days for it to be worth going...

My 2023 trip - Israel, South Africa, USA

Dear people, it has been a while since I last posted here, and I was fortunate in being able to travel to a certain extent during the pandemic. In 2023, I will be doing a 6-week trip starting in mid-June. I plan on going to the following places: South Africa - 2 weeks. Intend to visit some of...

Travel from KL (Malaysia) to Mel for 1 day

Air Asia premium flatbed is perfectly acceptable and MUCH better than a premium economy overnight flight. Also the meals on Air Asia are actually very tasty, just a bit too small in terms of serving size, just order an extra one.

    Melbourne Airport hotels

I've stayed many times at the Ibis budget - but that was before they jacked up the prices, and for $30 more, I'd probably go to the Holiday Inn. I never had a problem with the rooms though.
