B77W Business Class Seat Map - Updated!

I flew SYD-LAX last week and was chatting at the bar to a bloke who said he was a reporter (for Sky, IIRC). He was flying PE out and J back, and would be filing a report on both cabins, so keep an eye out for that........ Before anyone points it out, I think the staff had been told that he...

Virgin [checkin] moving to LAX T2 [May 2017 - Flight to depart TBIT]

Thank you - I wasn't expecting it to be open quite so early; allows for quite a lot of FLounge time ahead of the 22:35 departure :) Joking aside, I'm essentially going to be killing time on the day I head back to SYD, so although 3pm check-in would be a tad too early for me, it's good to know...

Virgin [checkin] moving to LAX T2 [May 2017 - Flight to depart TBIT]

Yep, sadly it is! Will have to enjoy the FCL to the max in August on my way home.... anyone know how early it's possible to check in?

Napa / Sonoma Valley cellar door recommendations?

I'm off to the Napa / Sonoma Valleys in a week or so, for a day and a half. I'll be driving up from San Francisco in the morning, via Muir Woods, then through Sonoma and on to the Napa Valley. The 2nd day will be a Napa Valley wine tour with Platypus Wines (had to pick that one when I saw it on...

I'm in the VA Lounge thread

Not strictly a VA Lounge, but prior to catching VA1 to LAX on Thursday 14th July, I will be in the Air NZ Lounge (Sydney, International Terminal) for a couple of hours

    Companion Gold

I agree that it's definitely NOT 2300 SC's. In my case, I needed the 1300 SC's that Newmarket mentions for a pre-existing Platinum member who's in the process of renewing, but the ability to gift Gold (to my wife) was based on my rolling one-year SC-count rather than the SC's earned within my...

LAX airport hotel or beach ?

Agreed - I'd definitely choose Santa Monica over an LAX airport hotel if I was going to be in the Los Angeles area for a couple of days. If you're really worried about getting to LAX in time in the evening, take a day-room at one of the LAX airport hotels, travel there outside of rush hour and...

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

No need to apologise - the best wine in the world is the one you enjoy drinking :)

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

It's drinking really well at the moment - not much primary fruit character left but very smooth. Í can't comment on how long the 2004 has got left, but I will probably aim to drink the remainder of the '06 in the next few months........

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Rockford 2006 Basket Press Shiraz. Rummaged in the cellar and decided to push the boat out for something to go with the spaghetti bolognese this evening :)

UK - in or out of the EU? Travel Issues?

Re: UK - in or out of the EU? Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Essex, apparently..... I bet his lectures are just one massive barrel of laughs.......

UK - in or out of the EU? Travel Issues?

Re: UK - in or out of the EU? Interesting proposal in the UK's Daily Telegraph newspaper today - Brexit frees the UK to join NAFTA, which is a genuine free-trade area rather than a wannabe super-state. The article also points out that NAFTA's combined GDP is $3 trillion MORE than the EU. I...

UK - in or out of the EU? Travel Issues?

Re: UK - in or out of the EU? Shouldn't happen, but if it did, it would be true to EU form - similar to the Irish when they voted against one of the treaties (Treaty of Nice, from memory)...... and were made to vote again!

UK - in or out of the EU? Travel Issues?

Re: UK - in or out of the EU? Yep - this spoof petition sums it up nicely - Euro Millions is a multi-country lottery, in case some folks aren't aware.

    Never flown United... Tips?

Fair enough - at the end of the day, it's got to be whatever works for each individual, within the constraints of whatever flights are available. Do you use melatonin and / or sleeping tablets, or does the schedule alone do the trick? When we first travelled ADL-SIN-LHR, Emirates weren't an...

    Never flown United... Tips?

Seconded - melatonin (to help re-set the body-clock) + mild (non-prescription) sleeping tablet + careful scheduling of the sleep works wonders for me, with very little jetlag even when flying ADL-SIN-LHR and back. As always, YMMV, but this is my trick: Flying east-to-west, stay awake until...

    Hotel Promotions Hilton Honors Promotions

Re: HHonors Promotions Did my two stays in early June and I can confirm that the offer works as the confirmation of my upgrade to HH Gold came through within a couple of days (valid to end-March 2018!) EDIT: for clarity, this was the Visa Infinite offer - 2 stays or 4 nights and fast-track to...

Queuing for the priority queue? What the?

Best guess would be 20 people or thereabouts in a PB queue I'm not sure how the number of people in the PB queue makes any difference - a clear announcement that the PB queue will be handled first + a statement on who is entitled to use the PB lane + clear policing by sending non-entitled...
