Hi All

Bit of a simple question ( or so i thought ) and received 2 different answers today from Velocity.

Can some of the VA WP's on here confirm the info around companion Gold.

I am Gold now and will be Platinum in a couple of weeks for the first time with 1320 SC

If I just go straight to 1320 SC can i gift Gold ? or do I have to wait until I am Plat first and then get a further 1300 in year 1

I hope I have explained this ok

Thanks everyone

From the Velocity site: Gift a Gold Membership to a companion of your choice by simply earning an additional 500 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits required to maintain Platinum within your member benefit period.

The way I read this is that you would require 1500 Status Credits (1000 for you to qualify as Platinum and the additional 500 for your companion to be gifted Gold). The following years I imagine would require 1300 Status Credits (800 to retain Platinum and 500 for companion Gold).

Yes this is how I read it.

So I am probably better off requal Gold ( 400 sc ) and then pool to wife to get her to gold ( 500 sc ) and then I would have some SC left for requal again for me

Unless you fly seperately often I would go for platinum for yourself. I will be sad to lose row 3 when I go back to gold :(. If you fly seperately often then gold for both of you probably wins ... At least in her opinion ;).

This is fantastic information! I totally forgot about this perk. My husband will be WP when we fly next month, and will also generate enough extra SC to gift me Gold membership.

Thank you darling, it's just what I always wanted xx_x

Is he renewing his WP status for the year with 1300+ SCs or hes obtaining WP for the first time?

To be able to gift companion gold in year 1, I think you would need to earn 2300 SC's

Logic
Qualify for Platinum - 1000 SC
Retain Platinum - 800 SC
Gift Companion Gold - 500 SC
Total - 2300 SC

You need 500 SC after qualifying/retaining Plat.

Year 1 = 1500
Year 2 onwards = 1300

Sorry but year 1 would be 2300
From velocity website - "Platinum members, who earn an additional 500 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits to maintain Platinum within their member benefit period, can gift a Gold membership to a companion of their choice."

I guess I got lucky then when gave gold after earning 1500 SC I can promise I did not earn 2300 and 100% gave gold the first year I was Plat

No first year is 1,500 and 1,300 going forward.

I agree that it's definitely NOT 2300 SC's.

In my case, I needed the 1300 SC's that Newmarket mentions for a pre-existing Platinum member who's in the process of renewing, but the ability to gift Gold (to my wife) was based on my rolling one-year SC-count rather than the SC's earned within my Platinum membership year.

I've screen-grabbed my membership page to help illustrate things:

Under the "Maintain Platinum" section, I still need 170 SC's (out of 800 in total) by Jan 2017 to retain Platinum. The start-date for this window (as most will already know) is set by the date when I reached Platinum for the first time.

In the red box in the top right is a separate SC-count of 1560 - this is for my rolling one-year earning window.

When my rolling one-year total hit 1300 SC's, I rang the helpdesk and gifted Gold to my wife - at that point, I still needed around 400 SC's to "Maintain Platinum", so was obviously nowhere near earning 1300 SC's in the Platinum membership year.

I'm not sure whether I just got lucky or whether I complied with the intent of the poorly-worded VFF rules....??

Well, I've just rung the GCC and was told that the 1300SC needs to be earnt within a membership year and not in the rolling 365-day coughe. I currently have 1300SC in my rolling coughe but only 610SC in my membership year. You were very lucky then, Caversham04.

Definitely just lucky Caversham04. I hit rolling 1,300 and gave it a go but with no success. When I made it to 1,300 in the membership year was done with no problems (and very quickly).

Logic would suggest that it is 1300 after you have become Platinum-otherwise those next 500 credits (after 1000 to qualify Platinum) would be counting towards both the Partner Gold and Platinum requal
Lucky if you've tricked the system

(An interesting scenario is if you were Gold and had 1500 credits and flew your 8th Eligible Sector on the last flight-that would not be a double dip as the other 500 SCs would be lost to requal-still wouldn't fulfil T&Cs though)

I'll keep schtum, then!

Well, this changes everything then. Seems I won't be getting The Gift of Gold after all.

I will just have to buy something gold for myself to compensate for my unfortunate scenario. Where's that Angus & Coote catalogue.........

What about him pooling SCs to you for your status?

And no, no Angus & Coote. Friends don't let friends buy A&C. Ever.

hahaha Denali, you are a funny gal! I'm actually more of a Michael Hill fan myself.....

I think I will let him keep his Plat Status - as long I fly alongside him, I can always glom on for the benefits.
