That wasn't the situation I was describing with QR. People would check in, with their velocity number on the boarding pass. Between then and boarding the flight someone would change that to a different Velocity number and collect the points. No points transfers or unauthorised account logins.

I got the same...after looking for MEL - OOL flights.

It sounds a bit like that is what has happened...because, hacking (and locking) of Velocity accounts is at epidemic proportions at the moment...and something that is very commonly reported is that the hackers change the email and phone number on the account...which Velocity doesn't seem to send...

Or, its current employees...an inside job. There seemed to be a situation a while back where people travelling on QR were having their (velocity as it happens) frequent flyer details changed between checking in and boarding the flight. So someone would change the FF number to be a different one...

I strongly suspect it will be a cancel and rebook scenario.

This is considered a long haul product on most other airlines. I'd take it over the back/bum breaking A380 seat any day!

The best advice is not to set this up in advance...do it during check in when the option is offered for you to manage this yourself.

In the past 2 weeks I've received "we detected unusual (successful?) login activity" emails for my Avianca LifeMiles account...but more concerningly my personal email account. IP addresses in the US in both cases...where I wasn't. Both use, strong, unique passwords.

Seat selection issues occur when the flight carries a VA flight number only...so for paid VA codeshare flights on SQ. As awards are always SQ coded there are no seat selection problems for award flights.

If you are VA platinum, then a lot less points...you miss out on the 100% platinum bonus on miles flown...this is only applicable to SQ booked as a VA flight number. SCs will be close to the same.

I wouldn't trust any recent updates to the Velocity site...I think the work experience kid is doing most of them. They made a complete mess of their initial updates to the page re Singapore Airlines lounge access...it took them several edits to get it right...in the meantime a whole lot of...

OK, well as I said...Velocity does not have rolling points expiry...so there is no situation that could cause SOME of your points to expire and not others...so the original inactivity explanation is incorrect.

Velocity points do not partially expire....either they ALL expire, or none expire. So there's no scenario related to expiry that would leave you missing some points...unless when you say you were "short" you mean your balance was zero.

The only VA partner where I think last minute business class availability seems to be "a thing" is I think, United...although with Etihad now limiting partners to booking business class 30 days out...perhaps this a new opportunity...haven't really checked. For QR and SQ...you will probably be...

It's not uncommon that the availability of VA codeshare flights can be very limited...although it does seem exceptionally so this far out.
