Cancelled my Classic Rewards Flight but No Voucher Option Offered?

A points refund is better than a voucher. Can be used more flexibly. Of course you should have any fees refunded in cold hard cash.

How to score a cheaper business flight (during this covid period)?

Nothing direct is cheap. Cheapest I can see is with Philippine Airlines via Manilla for SGD$923.30 (AUD$1059.29) Otherwise with Malaysian via Kuala Lumpur for SGD$1774 (AUD$2035.30)

The future of Airlines and their alliances

Some news tonight. First, Austrian Airlines is grounding its fleet and suspending operations. I have heard Swissair has made the same decision. One short haul and one long haul aircraft will be maintained in operational readiness by Swissair for evacuation or other emergency flights. Second...

How not to be spotted as an Anglo in Paris

Which means "me too". But yes they are nicer to Australians than to Americans or the hated English.

How not to be spotted as an Anglo in Paris

Indeed, try bon soir as an evening greeting (good evening). Whereas bonne soirée is an evening farewell (have a good evening). (But don't be confused because soirée also means evening gathering and is commonly used instead of fête to mean party.) Similarly while bonjour is a daytime greeting...

How not to be spotted as an Anglo in Paris

Difficult to answer so I will answer the easier part first. The French use "hello" as well so if that is all the lady at the Gare du Nord said, it's not necessarily because she thought you were an anglophone. Now to the harder part. The French are certainly very good at picking accents and in...

    Qantas passenger disruption policy

This may sound reasonable but there is not always a clear distinction between weather events and events under Qantas' control. For example when a cyclone passed New Caledonia in February Qantas decided to cancel some flights on following days even though the weather had improved, the airport...

What I REALLY want for my birthday QFF ...

That's probably more realistic than my expectation that Qantas will abandon the drinks trolley routine and just serve drinks instead.

What I REALLY want for my birthday QFF ...

For my birthday I want: (1) champagne not domestic sparkling garbage; (2) champagne on boarding in J for all flights, domestic or international; (3) cabin crew who offer me another champagne as soon as the fasten seat belt sign is turned off after take off, instead of disappearing into the...

Lounge Etiquette in the Age of Coronavirus

Depends where you are. The number of infected people in Australia is currently so low that the risk is probably negligible. If you're transitting HKG the risk is probably greater. Hence the problems faced by CX. Generally however in a buffet style lounge where you have to grab crockery from a...

How to properly wash your hands ( hint anti virus)

Happy to concede you have common sense. Also happy to concede I may have been wrong. Apparently the virus can live much longer than I thought on common surfaces. However it still needs to enter your body somehow to infect you. Skin contact is not enough.

How to properly wash your hands ( hint anti virus)

The virus can't survive long on surfaces so a lot of surface wiping is probably not terribly effective. And even if there was some live virus on an aircraft seat, you wouldn't contract it by skin contact, let alone through clothes. What's more important is to: (1) wash your hands often; and (2)...

How to properly wash your hands ( hint anti virus)

At work I walk around the corner to the kitchen, drop the paper towel in the bin and sometimes wash my hands again there.

How to properly wash your hands ( hint anti virus)

Yes they contain alternative surfactants (in this case principally Sodium cocoyl isethionate and Sodium Laroyl Sarcosinate) which dissolve oils and remove dirt. The term "soap free" just means they don't contain the particular surfactants contained in traditional soaps. Those are usually derived...

A chance to reminisce - who remembers the "old days" of Travel?

I must admit I still dress up a little to fly. Although I never wear ties anymore unless I am going to a wedding, or court.
