A QF10 departure from LHR around 11am or so would slot in quite well with the EK flights. There seems to be a useful gap between EK8 (STD 9.10am) and EK2 (STD 1.35pm). The corresponding arrival times into DXB are 8pm and 12.35am, so an intercalating QF10 would have an attractive arrival time...

Sorry - my reply was a little unclear - I meant that on the "old" config row 16 is the exit row (as we know) with crew on the A/B side. For the new, 3-class Skybed MkII config row 14 is the exit row with crew on the J/K side.

You're right - crew seats on the J/K side, although row 14 for the new config with MkII beds of course.

I agree with other posters that row 16 seats are easily the best in the house. I prefer the A side myself, as the seats on that side are further back due to the crew seats on the other side of the exit in front of you. This means you get a bit more window view which I prefer.

bjbrian, no plane type change per se - a 747 on both sectors now. Internal configuration may be different however, with both old 4-class config and new 3-class config variously appearing on both the SYD/LAX and LAX/JFK sectors, although my hunch is that the new config appears a little more...

I've flown both airlines from YYZ-YUL on a couple of occasions, and found Westjet to be much better. That said it's only a one hour'ish flight.

While not seeking to detract from the concerns of the OP, I must admit that I've found P1 membership useful at a practical level so far. I've had extra award seats made available in Qantas Business and on QantasLink. Also waitlists for D class on QF10 and a QF codeshare flight (AA metal)...
