Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Or maybe people want a holiday and paying with points is the only way to afford it! No one is being duped here.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

They’ve explicitly said they want to 4x profits from the loyalty division by 2030 - that’s why they’ve launched Classic Plus. They believe it will increase member engagement and thus the number of points they can sell. It may work. With the current USA sale, some classic plus economy reward...

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

There can be OK value here when fares on sale. I'm looking at booking PER-YVR, which is 358k points + $1341 return in J for CR+ That's only 70k points more than CR (plus a few hundred $$ more in taxes and fees I suspect). Not bad really.

AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

The insurance is one of my favourite features. The points source is irrelevant.

Want to fly PER-SYD in December but the only reward seats go via another capital city

I've also noticed that Perth-east coast reward seats are being snapped up more quickly than used to be the case

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

I find myself thinking differently about the value of Qantas Points now. I just cancelled a domestic Y->J upgrade request for PER-MEL next week. Previously I had no problem spending 54k points this way (for 2 pax). But now I think of those points almost like actual money - and 54k points x 1.5...

Nobody reads the Australian. A bizarre place to advertise.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

A solid explainer for the masses about the latest changes. But I found the last three paras most interesting: “In all this, there is the question I raised last week about what will pay for all this extra availability. The answer, as I explained, is probably that the points earn rate from...

Amex launched a cashback card (1% I think) a couple of years ago but discontinued it. Amex MR cards effectively provide cashback as you can use points to pay for purchases

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

1 billion points were redeemed on classic plus rewards on Monday. Half in premium cabins. Sounds impressive until you realise that is only a few thousand actual flights booked. ”Qantas frequent flyers have splashed out on the new Classic Plus option, redeeming more than a billion points for...

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

We may have to wait a while to find out. Qantas’ next earnings announcement isn’t until late August.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

The chatter in various Facebook groups about this is *very* negative. The Qantas share price change since Friday is *very* positive.

How will Velocity respond to Qantas FF changes (new Classic Plus rewards)

True, so the one of their obvious goals could be: work with partners to make long haul reward seats more available.

How will Velocity respond to Qantas FF changes (new Classic Plus rewards)

I think Virgin has obvious questions to answer to potential investors about how it plans to grow its loyalty division and compete with Qantas FF. These questions are probably being asked in private right now.

How will Velocity respond to Qantas FF changes (new Classic Plus rewards)

Virgin stakeholders (and potential buyers) will no doubt expect the airline to respond to Qantas FF changes. Virgin could rule out doing anything in the short term, but that may not be viable if Qantas indeed just gained a competitive edge. I think Virgin has to do *something* before an IPO or...

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Card bonuses and earn rates will probably stay the same (or could even go down if interchange fees are reduced again). But we could see many more companies partner with Qantas to provide customers with points.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Remember, Qantas is doing this because it wants to 4x loyalty program profits, which means selling massively more points. It may be much easier to build large points balances in the coming years, making classic plus a better value proposition than it is now.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Are you saying any seat will be available to book as CR+? Because that’s not what Qantas is saying. Eg Hudson today: CR+ “will add four times the amount of access to seats than Classic Rewards” - a reference to the 20 million v 5 million CR I assume. So CR+ numbers are limited.

Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

So availability of CR+ will be “widespread” but not unlimited. 20 million seats this year. Will be interesting to see how long availability lasts on popular routes!
