    Coles Rewards MasterCard devaluation

I actually think your chances are quite good if you ask for it and explain that you paid the annual fee on the understanding that the card had a 0% international transaction fee. Your chances will improve exponentially if, upon refusal, you politely and calmly state that you intend to take up...

How well do you sleep on planes?

Absolutely no rhyme or reason. My best sleep on a plane by far was in a backwards-facing Qatar Q-Suite on a flight home from Europe via Doha. Slept for 8 hours and subsequently thought to myself "I've found the secret to sleeping in a plane!". Next flight back from Europe I eagerly selected a...

    Coles Rewards MasterCard devaluation

Yep, heading to NZ next month, before the changes, and then will cancel immediately after that. I'm eyeing the Commbank Smart Awards card, which doesn't have a great points earning rate but has the added advantage (for me) of converting to Qatar Avios. Long term I think it will be my new...

Article: Best Credit Cards for Overseas Travel & Online Shopping

Agree that the foreign transaction fee makes it considerably less attractive. The one reason to keep it is that it still earns Velocity points (via Flybuys) at a pretty good rate for a Mastercard -- namely 1 point per $ (up to $3000/month I recall). When you consider that the annual fee is still...

Bonuses for transferring Flybuys points to Velocity

Thanks for the heads-up! I haven't received the email yet but the use of the word "ever" is disappointing. It looks like, as per past promotions, those who had Auto Transfer in the past but who don't have it now are not eligible for the 15% bonus. I'll read the fine print but hopefully at...

How to go to UK pre Olympics?

Via Sri Lanka or India might also be an option. BA sometimes has good availability from the Indian cities that Qantas flies to.

What are the Qantas Frequent Flyer "sweet spots"?

One of the fun things about using points for flights is the “sweet spot” — flights for fewer points than one would normally expect or would normally be required. Using Virgin Atlantic points to fly ANA First Class, or to fly Air NZ in Business Class from Perth to NZ (or anywhere in the South...

I need to get at least 1 Virgin Atlantic Point ASAP- how to do this based in Australia

You might be thinking of the Explorer, that has fairly frequent 100,000 point sign-up offers (though I don't think there's one at the moment). Sadly, Amex MR points transfer to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at a 2:1 rate.

I need to get at least 1 Virgin Atlantic Point ASAP- how to do this based in Australia

Well, you may be right ... only you know how soon you need the points. Just be aware that Amex, unlike most other credit card providers, gives the bonus points as soon as you've done the required spending: you don't need to wait until the next statement. So in theory you could apply, receive...

I need to get at least 1 Virgin Atlantic Point ASAP- how to do this based in Australia

The obvious answer that springs to mind is to convert American Express Membership Rewards points. It’s not all that difficult to take out an Amex that earns MR points if you don’t already have one, and some of their sign-up bonuses are pretty good.

    Lounge Access Help Desk

Thanks for your reply and sorry for not giving enough information. I'm flying in on JL3 JFK-HND first class. Flying out on JL37 HND-SIN premium economy. I think both flights are classified as long haul?

    Lounge Access Help Desk

A quick question about lounge access at Tokyo Haneda. Flying in on JAL first class (arriving 5:10am) Flying out on JAL premium economy (departing 10:55am). Will I have access to the JAL First Lounge during my transit?

Adding flight segment - Diff availability for new and existing booking

So grateful for that advice -- after hours on hold to various call centres, the customer service I received via X was brilliant and they were able to change my booking for me, after multiple call centre agents told me that it was impossible.

What is 'priority' worth to you?

Priority check-in (and baggage drop) is definitely of value to me. I don't need it every time I fly, but during school holidays, long weekends, Friday and Sunday evenings, and, especially, when there are delays and the queues are long, it's invaluable. Priority boarding ... can be useful...

    Amex Essential Reintroduced

That's intriguing. And actually quite attractive, especially considering the low annual fee. For someone who eats out a lot (or gets a lot of food delivered via Uber Eats, Menulog or Doordash) it's a no-brainer. Might consider it myself, even though I won't get the sign-up bonus. Unfortunately...

Adding flight segment - Diff availability for new and existing booking

I have the same issue but received some very unexpected advice about what to do about it from a lady in the Qantas Auckland call centre. I booked JFK-HND in JAL first class using Qantas points. When I was booking I couldn't find business or first class availability from Tokyo to anywhere in...

AMEX Platinum - Additional Cardholder lounge access?

Every member of my immediate family (spouse, adult children, parent) have supp cards and they've each used their cards to enter the Virgin lounges on several occasions -- often with guests. They, and their guests, have never been denied access.
