Hi All,

I know this has been discussed before, but just to provide another data point. Have to get back from HKG to PER in mid November, and the preferred direct flight on CX is still waitlisted (though have the feeling it might clear closer to the date), so wanted to have a back up plan in place.

No Saver J award availability HKG-SIN, but Saver J SIN-PER.... So of course, went ahead and checked F availability HKG-SIN, and lo and behold F Saver in Suites is available HKG-SIN with a perfect connection through to J Saver SIN-PER.

Now I have tried to book mixed redemption class before and the call centre has told me that not possible, must be two seperate bookings. Did a bit more browsing, found a flyertalk thread with a reference to the KF Award Chart which states if F class not available on a flight then you will fly business. On same thread, people were also indicating that they were still receiving the 15% online discount with some persistence. I'm not normally one to get too caught up in 5k points here or there, but would be saving around 20k points plus carrier surchanges if I could book mixed redemption class.

Long story cut short, was prepared to go into battle to save the 30k odd points, got onto the call centre with the spiel ready, then surprise surprise, no argument, no nothing, she just asked for the flights, put me on hold for a while and proceeded to make booking and applying the 15% discount without asking.

Now that I've had that success, might put the extra 15 minutes in next time to do the same thing whenever flying in and out of Perth and connecting to SQ F.

Oh, forgot to mention the charges - the mixed redemption is charged at the higher class - in this case 47,500 points less 15% close enough to a round 40k points. If I had booked seperately would have been (from memory) 32,500 + 27,500 less 15% plus the extra carrier charges from having the 2 seperate bookings.

Thanks for the update.

Up until about three years ago it was possible to do the mixed class redemptions and the website would prorata the required mile for each sector depending upon the class.

Looks like a nice trip coming up all the same.

Thanks Alby...

Just another data point, had to get from FRA - PER early February, once again Saver Suites available FRA-SIN, and Saver Business SIN-PER. Gave them a call, explained that I would like to make a first class redemption but one sector didn't have F cabin and I was unable to book it online. She took the details, booked the route as a single F redemption with 15% online discount, no questions asked. As much as I prefer to just book it online, I was off the phone in less than 10 minutes and it saved me 20k miles, can't complain. Oh how I wish for a F service into Perth!
