10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

Oh!
Thanks, JohnK. I am a silly person. I thought Lindsay got the data table from Amex account login, and did not realise it was just a manual counting of the number of transactions!

Uh oh, next we will be hearing about a cashier at a local Woolies who will allow to you take apart the premade rolls and charge you individually for the roll, lettuce, tomato, butter, mayo, onion, chicken, avocado, salt and pepper...

I think we have well and trully exhausted our discussion of super-cheap transaction possibilities. If an intelligent person had a new idea, I doubt they would post it here and open the floodgates and possible Amex retaliation.

That was not the intent of the post that you referred to. They talked about legitimate small transactions. Trying to think of ways that were both within the inferred spirit and intent of the program.

It was not I think another "pay for mushrooms one by one" post so you are being a little harsh. I was going to reply referring to the local hospital I go to takes amex for $3 parking - saves carrying cash and earns points. I plan to give my parents an Amex card whilst they are visiting when the baby arrives so they can pay for things for us on my card.

It is simple and Amex does not provide the data for this promotion in summary format.

Log into your Amex account and click on 'view most recent transactions' and start counting the A$ transactions for each of the months. To go back to a previous month then you will need to look at the activity for previous months.

I copy and paste transactions into excel as unicode text - do a bit of jiggling and I have actual and forecast. I will use that in my rebellion against the Amex oppresssors!

Fight the powers!

Just did the sums: as of today (another 5k came through), I have been awarded 45k in bonus points from this promotion so far (I'm a 5T/5K postcard holder and supposed to be uncapped).
Sounds like we're in the same boat. Can you tell me if your bonus points seem to be posting every 10 transactions (like mine) or every 5? I am on the 5/5k promo, but since 01 November, my points have been posting every 10 transactions... I have not been switched to another promo because I was targeted for the 5/5k promo with postcard, and did not register multiple times.
I am convinced that its not points for this month as I have made 39 transactions this month and are on the 5K/5T and have not been POC'd and confirmed 5K/5T with CSR last week
Batman, I too once thought the same as you, but once November had gotten well and truly under way, I could see that in actual fact I was getting 5,000 points every 10 transactions (since 01 November), even though I am on the 5/5k promo. This initially led me to believe the points I was receiving were for September, with a six week lag, as they did not correlate to the amount of increased transactions I was doing in November.

If as some of us assume that the points are being posted based on November transactions, is anyone getting them on the 5T/5K or only the 10T/5K bonus offer.
Some input to avoid any confusion: Just because some of us who are (confirmed) on the 5/5k promo are now only receiving points every 10 transactions, it does not mean we're on the 10/5k bonus offer... Just as those, who aren't receiving any points at all, are not necessarily capped or ineligible.

well, i am on 5/5 uncap, and have been receiving over 20k points in nov.

however i can not tell whether they are from sep or nov, cos i does similar number of transactions per day.

however i have a feeling they are from nov, cos they started to appear after 5 transactions on my bill. and pretty consistent all the way through the month

How did you get the above data for your Amex card? I would like to check mine but could not find it in Amex when I logged on. Thanks
JohnK's answer is succinct and correct. After seeing bravoecho's attempt at charting about a week ago (and serfty's assistance to correct), I though that was an excellent way of keeping up to date. Apart from the lack of posting transactions on Sunday's and the slow posting of some transactions (like Cabcharge), it makes it easier for me to remember and follow. Of course, remembering to ask Mrs LW what transactions she has done daily, is also important ;).

Wish I knew what he meant by that and had his skills  - might make it at little quicker .

My November is up to 40 + 6 to post, so keeping to my 3 transactions/daily target. December (and Xmas) I am soooo looking forward to using the Amex...will be the season to be jolly (as the Amex points roll in). Certainly will be checking they accept Amex before shopping. Haven't walked out of any shops yet (been giving some crumbs to Visa :o )

Thanks, Lindsay, for confirming your methodology! Hubby asked me the other day why I have had so many transactions in Amex! (I am the main cardholder, he rarely uses it but pays it!). So, I told him about the competition.

I noticed that some forumites said they had bonus points added to their account already. This has not been my case. I phoned Amex and they said the bonus points would not be added until after the competition finishes.

No problems Myrna. I explained the promo to my wife around 20th September (a couple of days after I registerd) and as she is very understanding of my "affliction/hobby" (FF-related things) she even apologises these days if she comes home and has had to spend on the Visa. But she also knows she will be an equal beneficiary in the benefits from the promo...

The majority of us appear to be in the category of "no bonus points added since 23/24 September". Thankfully, I am patient and can wait (so long as they post eventually, if they don't then I'll be like everybody else -)

Thanks Simongr, was wondering how to get some info from another webpage into an Excel table and this little tip solved my problem. Sorry folks, I know it has nothing to do with racking up Amex MR points. Just a quick thank you to Simongr.

And yet another variation from the Amex CSRs...

Though this would have Amex in breech of their T&C's...both original and amended.

How long will it take for the bonus points to be credited to my account?
Once Cardmembers have made the required number of eligible transactions they should allow up to 10 weeks for their bonus points to be credited to their account. Points may be credited sooner, however this cannot be guaranteed.

Well, I have not seen any bonus points added to my Amex statements - and it has been around 10 weeks now since the competition started. I have checked the latest statement online and there was nothing. I will phone Amex again!

The T&C state that it is 10 weeks from "Once Cardmembers have made the required number of eligible transactions"

So that is 10 weeks after you have made the required 5, 10 or 20 transactions after you have enrolled.

Most people enrolled on or after Sept 17...add to this the number od days to make te 5/10/20 posts.

So the earliest is say Nov 24 which has not happened yet.

Now some cardmembers including me actually received points up till Sep 23/24..so for us the clock is reset to Set 23 +10 weeks = Dec 3/4.

Actually it's not a competition, it's a promotion.

On another note, for those that live in Melbourne, head voer to Doncaster Shoppingtown, it has AMEX banners plastered everywhere saying it's an Amex friendly shopping centre. They reckon over 250 shops take it... personally had 6 transactions this afternoon, not counting what the MRS did.

Assuming you have basic excel skills.

Select the transactions from amex and copy them.

Then open a new excel workbook.

Select edit and then "paste special". One of the options is "unicode text". Then it puts the items into the column order on teh amex page.

The problem is that it brings in the row below but you can easily delete those through autofiltering.

And yet some people have been receiving points again from the beginning of November. Makes absoultely no sense to me....

I undertook a paid Amex focus group a few months back and one of the biggest gripes from my group was that not Amex was not accepted everywhere compared to say a visa or mastercard.

Further Amex (I believe) were evaluating from the discussion group what marketing / promotions they were to consider activating. I believe the current 5/5; 10/5; 20/10 promo was something they were activated because they want all Amex users to try and use it everywhere - and probably walk away if Amex weren't accepted.

Plus the current advertising blitz re: Amex and how you can use it everywhere - is probably in conjunction with the bonus points pomo. One of the billboards you may have seen recently is the cartoon milk carton with lots of immigration travel stamps plastered all over it. Our group did happen to say that was the best of five possible posters Amex was considering to use ;)

Or you could try:
View Most Recent Transactions ->
Download Statement Data ->
Select Data Type “CSV” ->
Select Date Ranges to Download ->
Download Now

This will separate data into individual excel columns and rows.

That doesn't work very well if you have multiple cards like me. That only pulls the data from the card transactions.

I've being going to the MR page, entering the date range, then clicking on print. copy all the data then doing a straight paste into excel and it as pasted them all correctly into cells. No paste special required.

I find the quickest way to tally up my transactions is to go into the MR transaction screen, select your date range and then hit search.

Below the transactions will be a set of numbers which denotes the number of transactions on each page eg. 1-20 | 21-29 in my case. This means that for the month of November, 29 transactions have credited to my MR account.

Note that this will only work if you have no international or otherwise non eligible MR transactions.
