That's it, it's all about 'eyes on the prize' at this stage. I had a chat on the weekend to my MrsNSWhere (who is in Melb atm) about how far we've come and how with only two weeks to go we can make a strong finish. The result? Well judging from the tranasactions, let's just say for someone who travels with hand luggage only she'll have a hard time bringing all those clothes back

I have a pattern similar to yours Lindsay (I wonder if others do to?) I head to my local sandwich store in the morning and grab something, then 5m across the road for a coffee, for a snack at some stage in the day I head to the corner store to grab an OJ and a Carmen's muesli bar and on the way home I usually grab some fuel. Shopping is done more than weekly now and, like you, usually involves multiple stores (after all, Coles is rubbish for nice fresh stuff, but other stores can't compete on price... Oh, and my liquor cabinet should last christmas this year (went a bit overboard at Dan Murphy's in the last couple of months). I aim for five a day, and for MrsNSWhere to make at least one. Weekends are usually quite slow though (except last weekend when I did all my Xmas shopping).

NSWhere, we seem very similar. I've even taking to now filling up the car in $20 "every couple of day" increments (I started with an empty tank). Strange how I never did this before . Even when I meet my wife for lunch once/week, we both pay for our lunch separately (nice having a supplementary card). (Almost) Anything to get another transaction...

I know what you mean about being addicted, sometimes I just have to laugh at my behaviour recently. I have no doubt that my life will return to normal post December, quite a few of the transactions I make (such as the aforementioned sandwich) are only made because they quite literally pay for themsleves during the promo. It will be intersting to see how often I pull out the amex vs the visa post promotion, I expect the amex will continue to be well represented but after the promo I think 1.5MR/$ might seem rather anaemic.

True, I think all of us have "promo lag" because of the extended time (3.5 months) but for Amex I'll bet it can't come soon enough so they can try and work out their MR bonus point liabiilty...but like you, the extra earning from Amex will always mean I'll pull it out first...

I use $5-10/week of fuel.. so can't really justify fueling up too often

I'm so glad Amex has finally stopped fingerpointing and confirmed it makes boo boos. Very kindly they've reinstated the original offer of 5/5. The legal advice I have is to formally accept the refreshed offer.

My wife loves me as I do something she hates (food shopping) and accepts that it might take me a little longer to do the shop - as I keep reminding her of the prize (MR bonus points converted to AA miles for free J class travel).

Strange - I am about 80% faster shopping than mrssimongr (50% faster before waddling due to babysimpending) as I stick to the list strictly.

I actually struggle with daily T - I hate using cards for my semi daily Boost juice and lunch so it is bottle of wine and extras from woolworths that are bulking up my T day to day then hitting the stores hard at the weekend.

Was there any discussion of the multiple promo aspect?

Still no letter for me saying I am on the 5k/5 promo :(

Still on the 5k/10 but no points posted now for 10 days :(

In hindsight, I wish I had multi-enrolled

Why do you say that?

Are you saying that for those who enrolled multiple times, AMEX has to honour all of them instead of allocating us to a particular promotion at their desire?

Please explain :) .

Good point - was there any comment on multi enrollment vet?

I'm flat chat today - lunch with business and legal academics today. The law is fascinating. I recall one pathologist wanted his $4m back - and lost $50m in 24 hours on his shares due to bloody minded determination exposing funny stuff missed in a share float signed off by experts as kosher. Oops, they missed something. I made a call, filed an affidavit, and the Fin Review somehow got wind of a story. Then common sense prevailed. Or there was a case in the paper yesterday. A hairdresser refused to honour a voucher. A barnie developed. She breached some other laws, and like Richard Nixon, was burned by the BS and fingerpointing. I think emotional Bacon Saving ("BS") reactions open pandora's box. ;)

Just had a nice chat with Membership Rewards (I hadn't called previously). After initially saying points would post 8-10 weeks from the end of the month, and that I should have all September points by now, they said there were some problems with their computer systems.
"You're right, the points don't add up. But they'll all come through, I guarantee it."
No mention of being dropped down to another promo, or not being invited, or anything nasty like that. And now my points are guaranteed!

Just for clarity was that a yes or a no?

I'll see if Amex honour their commitments. I usually play nice until someone tries to screw things.

I'm baffled Amex doesn't use confidentiality agreements, btw.

I am not trying to be awkward here but based on the assumption that youhave some form of agreement and are not subject to a confidentiality agreement can you advise whether any reference to multiple registrations is included in your agreement?

Mrs LW loses interest quickly and hates to have to take mini-LW with her shopping, whereas I go by myself usually.

I actually struggle with daily T - I hate using cards for my semi daily Boost juice and lunch so it is bottle of wine and extras from woolworths that are bulking up my T day to day then hitting the stores hard at the weekend.
I love not having to carry around cash - I have subsisted for the past 2 weeks without having any folding stuff in my wallet (other than the increasing bulk of all the CC transaction chits). I average 3 to 5 daily, but like you look to the weekend to prop up my total. Mrs LW is going Xmas shopping today (mini-LW with grandma) so that might gives us some more transactions today.

Was there any discussion of the multiple promo aspect?
Either vet is forgetting to answer the question or enjoys being obtuse and going off on a tangent, because there doesn't appear to be any reason he can't share the information based on his comments:

His "flat chat" must be different to mine...I'm not flat chat today :D

Ahh, yes, your child is not old enough to come seeking cash for the day's activities. I need to have a reasonable supply of the old fashioned stuff in my wallet as I am not going to give them all Supp Amex cards .

In fact, I took $230 from the ATM this morning, and now my wallet is empty again! But the only people I hand cash to these days are the kids. All of my purchases go on the cards!

Ah the joys of dealing with AMEX for this promotion. So in summary
  • received the 5 for 5000 postcard
  • received points until they cut them off in September
  • had no points post since then
  • received the you weren’t invited letter (obviously in error)
  • rang AMEX and got an verbal apology
  • received the apology letter saying they have reinstated the original offer from 1st October
  • rang today and asked why 1st October 2008 and what about my points that haven’t posted from September 2008.
So drum roll please for the latest CSR message from AMEX – the computer stuffup occurred on 1st October which is when AMEX first tried to correct the multiple enrolments etc hence the reason they have fixed their records from that date.

So where are my September points – oh they wont post until at least January and they are going to send a letter saying by 31st January 2009.

However my October points will post in the first few weeks of January 2009 as per the terms and conditions.

Hmm lets see if that actually happens shall we.

Update on my situation:

Double enrolment 10K/20T (what i was invited to) and 5k/5T on my AMEX gold credit card. I was told by Amex CR enrollment date was 19th September.

Sept: 28 transactions for the month. 5k given after first 5 transactions. No points after that.

Oct:17 transactions for the month. The first 5k POCed on 10th october. Now my tally from bonus point program = 0 points. Call up AMEX on 14/10 talk to Jessica. Assured i was on the 5k/5T scheme and taken me off the 10k/20T scheme because i cannot be in both but I am capped to 10k points per month. Proceed to stop spending on the card as is not my primary card (WBC Altitude Platinum) and limit my transactions for the next month to get my max 10k. Still no points

Nov: 11 Transactions for the month. Still no points. All the while, In good faith believing all my points will come in the next 8-10 weeks.

Dec: 27 Transactions so far for the month. 8th December call up AMEX, spoke to Jay, am told I was still on 5k/5T scheme and points WILL come (after said 8-10 weeks) but added i was enrolled 19th September and therefore was UNCAPPED! Decide to start using my amex more. 10th of December find "Bonus Points" 5k in my account. 14th December get 10k MR Bonus Points added to my account. This doesnt make sense to me, then i count my transactions for Dec, this fell on my 20th transaction, get a sneaking suspicion that i have been misled and am back on 10k/20T. Call up today, suspicions confirmed by AMEX (CR name Arwin). Complain that I have been informed of my true enrollment status on the 18TH OF DECEMBER! 13 days before the promotion ends. Not to mention being misled by the other CRs over the phone, and as a result changed my spending habit on the card. Now when they look back at my account I will be getting zero points for Oct and Nov as i am under 20T.

I will be writing AMEX a letter demanding that I get the points as per what i was told by their CRs. So Sept (28T), 35k: 10k for 10k/20T deal + 25k for 5k/5T deal. Oct (17T), 15k on 5k/5T deal. Nov (11T), 10k on 5k/5T deal. Dont even know what to ask for Dec... thoughts?

I was given this address to write to if anyone interested:
American Express Australia Limited S10N.5
GPO Box 240
Sydney NSW 2001

What do you guys think? Am I being unreasonable? How many of you know your TRUE enrolment status? This is a joke.

I can infer front the way points are posting that all my MR accounts are on 10T/5K uncapped.

With all of those facts, you should think that you are on the 5T/5K points promo, uncapped, from your initial registration date (19 September). Now what Amex tell you is multiple conflicting statements - how unusual

What do you guys think? Am I being unreasonable? How many of you know your TRUE enrolment status? This is a joke.
You're seemingly as reasonable as the rest of us. We all believe we know what our true enrollment status is - as we believe the we understand the T&C's. However, the same can't be said for Amex's staff.

If there was another card that gave me the benefits of my Amex Plat, I'd be very seriously considering changing after all my bonus points are posted (then transferred). How one promo, stuffed up at every turn due to incompetence, can cancel 20 years of loyalty in 3 months. Good job Amex, you bunch of tossers .

I'm off to rack up some transactions....
