10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

I think that may be the real nub of their problem. We don't know how many people were targetted in their mail outs but I would guess that many multiples of that number have managed to register. Their main fault was in not restricting registration to their targets.

Yep, surprised that they didn't just set up the OPT-IN bonus section of their website better so if your account wasn't flagged with the postcard you couldn't register.

Also luisa has made it very clear on here that EVERYONE that registered regardless if they received a postcard or not is eligible for the promo in whatever form it ends up being.

Indeed.

5000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points 0 5,000
Did you sign up for each promotion or the last one only? I am still in New Zealand so only have 3 A$ transactions so far. Will have to wait for a few more days to see the result.

Has anyone who registered for all 3 promotions in order and did not call Amex start receiving any bonus points?

By the way Amex has not officially accepted anyone into this promotion who was not targetted. A post on AFF on behalf of Luisa is not formal acceptance. And for all those worried about how Amex can get out of it, or impose limits just think back to Citibank.

This thread is totally out of control....

How often can we transfer MR points to QFF? If there is no limit, I am thinking I might need to sweep these bonus points to QFF everyday just in case Amex reverses them.

Post Card

I did get a post card with the offer. My brother didnt, but he whent trought the website link to register.... At that point there was not limit on who could or couldnt register Cos it was opened to anyone who went to the site....

Calm Down guys.. I think everyone who register for the promo will get something... The issue is that some feel frustated as they cant abuse the promo and get 100,000 points.

They cant Afford to give unlimited POINTS to UNLIMITED Customers;)

it is quite surprising that Amex has been accepting QF Cradholders fora Membership rewards Promotion...as they clearly are not members of Membership Rewards.

QF Amex cardholders are members of 'Membership Rewards'. They earn membership reward points just like any other Amex cardholder. The only difference is, the points are transferred directly to their QFF account every month.

This is what I was told by Amex when I called earlier today. I'm automatically registered for MR, and therefore eligible for the promotion. However, any bonus points I get can only be sweeped to my QFF account - I can't redeem for any other MR items.

Here's another hint of this, Rental rewards offered 2000 MR points if you joined between a certain date... I thought damn I can't get them as I have a QFF card.... but they turned up on my points account.

Just to let you know, I've today received 10000 bonus points, for 10 transactions, ie 2 lots of 5000 bonuses. The transactions were for the 18th and 19th, so it's still working. The bonus points came through kind of randomly, so perhaps people should chill and see what happens. Amex have set expectations with this and fingers crossed they'll act fairly with paying out the points

I signed up at 8:30 am yesterday 19/9 and have just received my first 5,000 bonus points for yesterday's 5 purchases.
If this continues, Amex will have one happy customer for many years to come.:lol:

Umm that's only 100 transactions, which is far from abuse over a 3 month period

I see 5000 bonus points and only 6 out of 17 transactions posted but I don't think the online ones have been processed yet. Hugs sigh of relief, it's working still!

I think capping it will hurt AMEX.

I was going to get extra cards for my parents and kids, but there's no point now.

Oh well..

(then again do Amex want ppl to have more cards or not?)

Seems fair that only people sent the offer can accept it.

It's all about wait and see

lovestotravel 100 transactions is very normal... the abuse is to expect 100,000 points buying 100 things for $10 or $1 each. You could be getting 10 USA Return Air fairs for spending $1000 in thing you would spend anyway over the 3 month. So Qantas would have to give for FREE 10 Seats each way for every Amex customer who abused the Promo. Com'n... have a look at every other Rewards Points promotion or QFF promotion, Even the ones right now listed by Qantas are not even close to this CRAZY Generous. I remember 500,000 points was a thing you could get by getting a $700,000 mortgage with the Macuarie Bank, and here people want to get same deal by buying lots of $10 things many times a day every day for the rest of the next 3 months.... Some one at some point is going to say NO WAY. Giving 40K points for free is still very good... and Cowtown not offence but I think that amex will survive your boycott LOL

It tells me:

This offer has been temporarily suspended due to operational issues. Please try again later.

ring amex to register. be prepared to ans questions regarding the promotion. Several people in here has managed to sign up thru phone.

Talk about seagulls on left over chips...

As far as im concerned they are bonus's and thats the way its going to stay. If they are capped at 40k so be it. Not to say im dissapointed but still it beats spending 40k on the card in the next few months.

How does that merchant rate compare with other American Express merchants? Or other credit cards (e.g. Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Bankcard)

Just wanna know - my mum was an Amex-phobic (esp. me getting one), because she thought the merchant fee from Amex was prohibitive, thus I wouldn't be able to use my card in places I'd like to, and if I could use it, there would be extra charges on top for it.

Of course, so far I've proven her wrong. The Amex lady that told me I had successfully obtained my Amex card said they were doing things to help merchants accept Amex, but I have no idea as far as figures are concerned......

1.49% is exceptionally good - many merchants are in the 3-4% range for Amex. Their rationale is that Amex cardholders have more money, are more likely to spend more per transaction, and that they actively seek out merchants that accept Amex. That's how they propose value for the merchant fee.

As for what they do to encourage more merchants to accept Amex, they offer deals like a once only fee of $400 for the Amex merchant facility with no ongoing merchant fees for 12 months - it gets them a foot in the door. After this, they will have to pay fees of 3-4% to keep on using it.

Just paid for a Gold Subscription to AFF....

......on my Visa :(. Well, not much could be done about that - PayPal only accepted Visa or MC. Should I report them to Amex?

Back on topic, it'd be rather unfortunate if they decided to put the caps on the promotion. Although, 40k points in bonus is still better than nothing.

I wonder if we'll see some people get some Any Seat awards through this?:mrgreen: (just kidding)

While she did say that...if people have lied to the operator then they may be able to reverse their opt in.

ie. Many were asked what did their postcard say.....and despite not having one they lied that they did not have "theirs" with them.

Now if they had said instead....I did not get one, but wish to register anyway, and they were accepted that would be different.

Many of the operator calls are taped I believe.

A different case would be those that applied online only.

Thing is that if people had acted "honestly" and have been accepted into the rewards...one would think that AMEX will need to honour the t&c of the bonus by paying the bonus.

How AMEX may "in the future" seek to alter it is going to be interesting.

It looks like they are only accepting "new" sign-ups after advising them of the "new" 40,000 cap.

So I would surmise that there are a number of different categories:

* those that have responded to a postcard
* those that after signed up after "hearing" of the offer
* those that after signed up after "hearing" of the offer BUT who may haved lied to AMEX in the process of doing so
* those that have signed up post "cap" with modified t&c

Remember too that this forum would only be a very small slice of people that were sent the postcard. Some would have acted on it and some will have told friends and family who joined up as well.

With the postcard the wording on it does not seem to suggest that it is for the recipient of the card only.
