10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

Well, I recieved my postcard for the 10,000 per 20, and of course entered straight away. I cannot see how they can now possibly change the "rules" and put a cap on the deal, the offer was /is a legal undertaking on thier part.

As for those who di not get a card but signed up, it's a pity that Amex don't use the rules on deception and not only cancel the owners cards, but also take away any points they have.

The outpouring of naked greed in this thread is disgusting.

That would be a bit of an overreaction, given that it says nowhere on the offer that it is not transferable, and was at one point advertised on the Amex website.

There are people on this thread who have said that they lied when asked about receiving the card, I believe that lying is also classed as deception?

It's a moot point really, isn't it. I'm going to ring up and try register, will let you know how I go (as I'm not sure whether I have the postcard or not, as I'm not in PER at the moment).

I just received 10K bonus - in two lots of 5K. I signed up for all three on line - looks like the last one is effective.

Quite a happy camper here as if I push through a few more transactions today (it is shopping day) I might be able to move a heap to SPG before the 1,000 -> 600 goes to 1,000 -> 330.

The question for me will be if this is not capped I might be better off leaving the points in MR and flicking 120K to Virgin Atlantic.

After a couple of days of furrowed brow I think things are working out nicely :)

EDIT

And I just realised that the bonus accrued for transactions from 16/9 - I think I have 4/5 transactions from yesterday alone that have not posted :)

This has made me move more transactions from cash to Amex - something I have been progressively doing. Just need to rework my cash forecast to factor in lower cash outflows by week and a higher Amex repayment.

This is exactly what I've been doing. I used to use a series of prepaid stored value cards for Woolworths, Coles, Woolworths Petrol, **** Smith, etc. as I was able to buy them on my Visa at a 5% discount to face value, and then use them for the transactions at those shops (usually collectively these would be about 5-7 transactions a week - so that's 5-7 more transactions on Amex that otherwise would have gone through my Visa (about $500 extra each week). Other transactions where it was too difficult to use cards for the points (takeaway, drivethru, etc.) I am now asking every time, and modifying my behaviour in terms of deciding where I'll eat, who I will shop with, etc. Even parking on the street in Sydney City now gets the Amex treatment!

I will be severely disappointed if this is capped. The promotion was publicly available (note American Express and American Express - they are publicly available pages on the internet which were linked from the front page of the American Express website - see this link from simongr) and was NOT limited to people that got a postcard in the mail. The terms and conditions were clear, and believing it to be rather generous, I even called American Express Membership Rewards to talk to them there to confirm that it is indeed no minimum transaction value, no cap on rewards, 5000 points for every 5 transactions). I confirmed my eligibility for this offer and was told that yes, I was registered, and I have copies of all the screen prints confirming the offer, and details of the offer on the Amex Website as well. For me, I see that as very clear in both the intention of the promotion and the actual terms and conditions.

Just like beardoc, I have collected screen shots of this promotion. In the event that they decide to cap the points. Where would we be able to lodge our complaints if AMEX flatly refuse to acknowledge this offer?? State consumer business affair?? ACCC?? Ombudmans?

I am no legal person, what they have offered on the website site, does that constitute an offer?? when we sign up for the promotion, will it be seem as a contractual arrangement???

Just going back to contract law during my uni days........

This thread is indeed out of control! Did someone mention (or thinking of) pushing through purchasing 100 mushrooms individually? That'd certainly go down as legendary as the Pudding Guy... maybe as the "Mushroom Man"...

(no it's not a character from Mario Bros....)

I just called to enroll, and the person over the phone made no mention of change in T&Cs (e.g. points cap). Will call and complaint if its.

Also keeping the postcard which has the original T&C clearly printed.

Thing is that if people had acted "honestly" and have been accepted into the rewards...one would think that AMEX will need to honour the t&c of the bonus by paying the bonus.

How AMEX may "in the future" seek to alter it is going to be interesting.

It looks like they are only accepting "new" sign-ups after advising them of the "new" 40,000 cap.

It is certainly possible they may alter it, although as always trying to make a change in a retrospective way can be problematic. So, they may change the rules for new sign ups (capping etc).

Looking at the postcard itself, in the example given it is even noted that one telephone bill = one transaction, so of course they can get grumpy if people decide to slice their bill up into multiple transactions. The aim seems to be to increase the number of legitimate transactions, not to create a whole set of artificial ones.

As for bread rolls, buyng one bread roll may be legitimate (heck, I've done it, although I paid cash for it!), buying multiple bread rolls in multiple transactions seems against the spirit of the promotion. (IT was interesting working out which the low price items in the shops were though!)

I think if people had stuck to the spirit of the promotion, rather than trying to bulldoze their way through the T&C's, there would never have been an issue.

The mushroom thing happened when the rounding down to 5c happened. Given they worked out at like 2c each they rounded to zero. The responsible party did get banned from shopping at that supermarket.

At 1 cent per MR point, 1000 MR pt per transaction is worth ten bucks! How can they possibly afford to give away ten bucks for each and every transaction without limit?

Much as I would love to get lots of points, I suspect a cap will come into play.

But I got mother to check my PO Box for me, and she said there's mail there from AMEX. So I dare say I've got the postcard sitting back in PER anyway..... will find out later this afternoon when I get home :)

Apologies if this is already covered earlier - I just cannot bother sifting through 43 pages of posts (and still increasing as I type).

It seems there are different promotions happening, eg 5000 pts for 5 transactions (MYREWARD), 5000 pts for 10 transactions (MYBONUS) and 10000 pts for 20 transactions (???).

In the spirit of ultimate dodginess.... do the codes "stack" and has anyone tried to enrolled in all three?

Yeh, I think it's cause the name doesn't match up.

SPG has a "K" for my middle name, and AMEX doesn't even let me use one on the form...

Oh, yes, I have found signing up online for the transfers to sometimes get rejected.

Thanks for that.

Very interesting that they are STILL accepting.

My first batch of 5,000 pts for 5 transaction was just posted yesterday!

The myreward (5 transaction for 5,000 pt) is the best. For previous threads, you can register for all three but it seem that only the last one is effective. So go for the 'myreward'! You can still register now!

Anyone happened to grab >40,000 pts in the account and thus breaking the 'capping' issue that has been around this forum for some time?
