Reading the Board is one thing, but what does "... Commissioned by AMEX " mean ??

GORDO

I'm figuring that as time goes on, more and more of us are having our points post in full by Amex, and those of us that still have outstanding are dwindling. I'm figuring too that those of us that still are disputing points have done so through the FOS by now. Is there anyone still battling with American Express directly?

Of those that are still disputing, what level are you at? Have you only just sent in your initial complaint to Amex, or are you waiting for arbitration from the FOS?

I myself sent in the original complaints to Amex and the FOS in December, and Amex have been dragging the chain a little bit. Amex had one chance to respond and instead decided to send me a form letter suspending me from the program instead. They've been given ANOTHER month to respond to a second letter to the FOS, and they only have a few days left before their response is due.

So, those of you that are left, what stages are you up to in your disputes?
I also the one still have not got all my bonus points. Amex told me no more points will be awarded simply because there are many small value transactions. I am now writing the complaint to FOS. I'd like to know how many of you have been successfully received all entitled bonus points after lodge the complaint to FOS and how many of you unsuccessful. What kind of transactions you guys have got? And any suggestion on how to write the complain letters to FOS? Any sample would be great! Thanks.

Thanks, I can see the meaning now...

I originally took it to mean, that the website AFF was commissioned by Amex
( for their own purpose ? A sort of 'customer satisfaction' gauge perhaps )

Sorry to have implied anything that was not warranted.

regards,
GORDO

lovetravellingoz,

The best I can work out of these is around 4 cents per point or slightly less.

Though with the first one as Earth temporarily earns at 3.0 points per $, you can say get a $10K + ticket for by spending $100,000 to earn 300K leaving you with 20K of points left over.

As one would "normally" only earn the 1.5 rate..this provides window of opportunity to achieve a return of 10+% compared the normal rate of 4-6 cents in the dollar...or 4 cents per point.

With the SQ Saver and 25% discount the cents per dollar should say 5 or more cents??

how so yeti ?

As for me, have asked FOS to pursue as Amex moved me to 10/5000. So not resolved yet.

Sorry to go a bit off topic....

but can someone explain, what was printed in the Sydney Daily Telegraph newspaper on 18 March, P. 67 ??

In a story about QFF, the article states, that Frequentflyer.com.au was commissioned by AMEX, with the owner of the website being Clifford Reichlin.

Is this correct? Is Clifford aligned with AMEX, and if so, then is he providing details of our 'chat' to AMEX ??

Someone put it another way for me, because, to me, this sounds really sus.

GORDO
Gordon,

Did the article actually say "that Frequentflyer.com.au was commissioned by AMEX"

If so I agree with your reading of the article even though it is incorrect. It would be very easy to come to a totally incorrect conclusion if that is what it said :!:

I strongly believe in the integrity of admin and the site but this is a good example of how easy it is for people to be steered in the wrong direction and consequently come to the wrong conclusions. :(

Did the article actually say "that Frequentflyer.com.au was commissioned by AMEX"

The article was in several newspapers, but needs to be read in context:

Members pay bills with Qantas frequent flyer reward points | The Daily Telegraph
MWE Consulting's Mike Ebstein, commissioned by Qantas to analyse competing schemes, said anyone who flies discount economy return to Melbourne four times a year will be better off in the Qantas scheme.

But "if you don't fly you're probably better off in a credit card program," he added.

Clifford Reichlin, whose website frequentflyer.com.au was commissioned by Amex, said of the new Qantas scheme: "There is no real upside for the consumer."

The example given was the comparative study shown in this thread: http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...ntas-frequent-flyer-program-really-16385.html which quite clearly states:
"American Express approached frequentflyer.com.au to conduct an independent analysis of Membership Rewards Ascent compared to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program"

So, really it's all about the individual studies shown and their results. As a single quote - it is misleading.

Junji,

This has been discussed at length elsewhere here and the information you have been given is correct correct. I just can't find the link at the moment :!:
Start with www.americanexpress.com.au

Then look at Membership rewards program information, specifically airline partners and read the fine print

2.From 1 April 2009 Qantas is only available as an airline rewards partner in Ascent for certain American Express Business or Gold Business Cardmembers and in Ascent Premium for Centurion, Platinum and Platinum Business Card members. For Cardmembers enrolled in Membership Rewards Spirit, Qantas continues to be the only airline rewards partner available.

Interesting that nowhere do Amex mention the Rewards Advantage card. Must be trying to keep it "secret".
The very little that I've read on AFF about this card would say they are trying to keep it secret - invitation only, and requests to apply for the card being rejected.

I got two invitations for it. I don't see the advantage of it ... I have a plat credit and gold charge, I think they both supercede the benefits of the rewards adv card.

Rewards Advantage gives access to Ascent Premium which neither the plat credit or gold charge do.

I've been reading this historic thread with interest, along with hearing the numerous rants about this promo on here, over chat and in person. Now that I'm more informed and understand the promo better... are they out of their minds???? I meant that in a good way - this is like the mother of all promos. Just a pity that I didn't get in on the fun.

Anyway I've just got my Plat CC application approved, and am v excited about all the MR points. :D Just wondering, are promos regularly 'open to all' or only targetted? From reading this thread I'd assume that they wouldn't be interested in doing this sort of promos anymore? :(

All subsequent promos so far have been only available to those targeted and the Amex terms and Conditions have made that clear. I expect this will be the case for all future Amex promos.
