10,000 bonus points per 20 transactions

While not going crazy with my Amex, I am finding the promotion is encouraging me to use it more than I would have otherwise. For example, today my son called and asked me to transfer some money into his bank account so he could buy credit for his mobile. I suggest I that rather than transfer the money and then he go and buy the credit that I just do it on-line for him using my Amex card. So another $40 transaction on the Amex that normally would not have been there. I think this is the exact behaviour Amex were hoping to generate.

You could have saved $40 and told hi to spend less time on his mobile ;)

I think if Amex leave the promo as initiated (i.e. no cap) this 4 month period might really change long term behaviour.

I might go through my transactions at the end of the promo to see how many normal extra points I have earned by using my Amex when I would not normally.

I've had a large % of the points I've earnt deducted from my MR account.

Not sure what is going on at this stage, but find it interesting.

My total earn was less than 40K from the promo, and I was receiving the 5000/5 option. I was enrolled for all three promos and didn't call Amex to choose any particular one. Points only seemed to be crediting for the 5/5000 promo.

No adjustments here - any way to work what might have been deducted? Say removing all the 10 trans/5k bonuses or such like?

Are you a fairly high user of the card Mal in terms of monthly transactions? I expect higher users will be put on the 10K/20 Trans promotion as they would be deemed to need less encouragement to to use the card.

The retort to that would be that they did open up the 5k/5 trans to all amex members - and we have the screenshot that supports that.

Maybe a medium transactor - so perhaps the 10/5000 instead, although that doesn't make sense either based on deduction. Nor does the 20/10000 make sense. Not going to comment more about it until I get some kind of notification from Amex as to what they allege I did wrong (I assume they have an issue with something!).

Are you planning on giving them a phone call? Or wait for some notification?

Would be interested to hear what they say!

That does sound interesting although without further details it would be hard to guess what is happening.

Could it be that Amex is clamping down and even though it has been mentioned that 40,000 is the likely cap for this promotion they don't want people earning all of the cap in the one month but rather spread across all 4 months of the promotion.

As indicated earlier, not planning to comment any more until I get some kind of notification from Amex to find out what their issue is. That includes PM's and other types of contact. Not planning to call Amex at the moment.

Reversing transactions out is fraught with its own problems, and in my experience with certain financial insttutions it can take a couple of goes to get right!

If I track back the number of Tran's and the bonuses (posted to Membership Rewards) - Mine goes back to Sept 7th. Then again, it's all too confusing for me to work out, so I'll just wait till Amex taketh away what they thinketh I shouldn't haveth!

If you registered after 7th September maybe it is just an adjustment for transactions between the 7th and your actual registration date.

According to the card I have in hand, the promotion did not start until the 10th of September.

I think the only reason (valid & legal reason) that points were deducted is due to the one card being assigned bonus points from seperate promotions at the same time. In most cases there is something in the fine print (whilst not visible in the basic T&C offered) stating that an offer cannot be combined or used with another offer...

Just an thought anyway...

Mal, if you had registered for all three promos, they probably picked up on it and reversed the doubling up of the bonus points.

So if you had 20 transactions and you got

Myreward 20,000
Mybonus 10,000
Earnpoints 10,000

They probably reversed out two of them and left you with the proceeds of only one option.

Mine are posting predictably, credit for all transactions except the 2 USD ones which weren't meant to be included anyway, they are only getting the usual 1.5 per AUD after conversion.

Unfortunately I have been trying since the week end to take advantage of this offer only to see this message :
We're sorry...

This has been the situation for the past couple of days. AMEX are only accepting customers who received the offer by postcard in the mail plus a few that got in via their website early on.

It seems some folk have lied (by claiming on the phone to AMEX to have received the postcard offer when they didn't) to sign up, I don't know how AMEX will handle this but effectively the offer is closed if you don't have the card.

Current mood: Sad:(

I registered via a phone call on saturday. I have a QFF card and did not receive the post card (I did make a second call - where I phessed up that I didn't get the postcard and was checking I was still eligble - I was lead to believe it was all fine).

Well - after getting 7 transactions on my card I have recieved no bonus points :-( I would of been over the moon with any points and even the cap didn't bother me. With reports of instance crediting, it appears I have not really been registered at all.

Guess I'll just have to be one of the unlucky ones who missed the boat.

Good luck to all those that will get points. And remember, some points are better than none :-)

Out of interest did you receive a postcard (as this would mean that you were on their mailout database...or not)?

Thanks.

I did indicate that I wouldn't post further for the moment, pending clarification of what has occurred...

To clear up some inaccuracies:
I don't believe I've had points removed that were incorrectly credited because of the multi promos.
I don't believe I've had points removed because they were earnt on purchases pre-registration.
I don't believe that they have been removed due to a reclassification of my earn rewards.
I may have been targeted, but havn't seen a postcard yet.
I havn't lied to Amex about my eligibility for the promo.
Not all bonus points have been removed.

I am waiting for information from Amex as to why they have done what they did, and may take further action based on that information. Amex are on shaky ground with this promotion due to the way it was set up, the allowed base of opt-in members, the lack of T&C's, and the way they specially set up mini websites to advertise the promotion.

PS, I do not feel I have abused the spirit of the promotion (but some transactions have been pretty low value), nor have I earnt an excessive number of points. I would be interested to know if anyone else has had points deducted...
