Apols - my implication was that one of the two of you had been in the original target market....
I in no way was implying that Amex targetted you for dodgy behaviour

lovetravellingoz thats the way I read it, simply that you got a card.

Apols - my implication was that one of the two of you had been in the original target market - so assumptions that it was low users that were targetted were false.

I in no way was implying that Amex targetted you for dodgy behaviour.

I actually couldnt remember who was the 200 trans per month user.

That is ok then. That would be the other forumite and not me.

His usage patterns for Amex as posted by him were a lot more than mine.

However what Amex did not consider (if you believe that they did not get this promtion wrong in how many points per transaction they were awarding) is the number of transactions per month that most people do when you combine VISA (or MC),Amex, EFTPOS or cash.

I mean buy a newspaper per day and that is 30..buy lunch and then it is 60...not to hard to rack up 200 as a coughulative if you now channel it all through one payment means.

Personally IMO they got their whole promtion wrong.

As mentioned earlier the main problem is not abuse...but use of the promotion.

Amex got their numbers wrong and are faced witha promo that is simply way too generous in it;s awrds.

This is why they are back peddling.

The fault is with them, and not with most people using there cards (though yes some have no doubt abused the system).

But consider this...the maths of the promotion are such that even if not one person abused the promotion, including all the non postcarded people that have entered the promotion, that Amex would still have had a major problem.

Amex stuffed up on this big time. Make no mistake. and they are in damage control while they seek to get themselves out of it.

It's slightly ambiguous in previous posts, but is it correct that currently there are no transactions recorded in the MR transaction listing for 26/09/08? Of course I'm not receiving bonus points, but I'm also not getting the usual entries for 1.5 points per dollar with the Rewards Maximiser!
I have a Gold card but I have transactions for 26/09/08 that have appeared in my MR account which have also posted with the 50% bonus points promotion that was offered to me a while back.

Hi Guys,

Actually managing to read every single post here but have to admit I am starting to skim them much faster now haha and gee alot of repetition.

Someone asked a few pages ago about their qantas card whether if they signed up before the 20th whether its okay.

I signed up on the 18th and have two qantas cards, received 0 pts so far =( Dont actually remember what postcard I got as I threw it out but hopefully it is irrelevant or Amex can tell me.

Hoping if we signed up before the 20th and have qantas cards we are okay? Could someone advise.

Also I wonder whether it is all our cards or only specific cards ie: if we have two american express cards does the bonus apply to both? I asked amex and it seemed the girl I spoke with had no idea.

For those of you that are new to the site think about signing up for the newsletter. I have been getting it for a couple of years and it is good to keep in the loop if you are a frequent traveller or big on the points (FF pts).

Thank you.

Kind regards,
Mark

Same here. Nothing to worry about though. It happens every once in a while. There are probably backend computer issues stopping the website from accessing your details. Should be resolved some stage soon.

Well that blows that out of the water - unless it was a low utilised card that got targetted and is now a high utilisation card :)

Or say someone who has two cards - one they use a lot and another they don't use more than once every two months who might have got the 5 for 5000 offer like me.

Not at the moment, but I have seen it from time to time.

that's good, i sort of thought of that. but then again, just want to confirm that amex didn't ban me for some reasons. haha.

Not implying anything but note that complaints about AMEX to the ACCC have been made and upheld before...
American Express offers refunds for Platinum Cardmembers
Note the name of the AMEX spokesperson...;)

LOL well Luisa was only a media spokesperson then. The really interesting bit is the quote

"Businesses need to be careful when they use absolute terms in their advertising", ACCC Chairman, Mr Graeme Samuel, warned.

My understanding was he was saying you were targetted for the promotion - as you say, you received the postcard. I didn't infer from what he wrote that you had been targetted in any other way by AMEX apart from this.

You left off the 200 transactions per month part...which was clearly not me..

If you try again now, you'll probably get an error:

We're Sorry...
The American Express Online Services system has not properly responded to your request. If you were attempting to view Billing Details, the system may be unable to return all of your charges at one time. please use your browser's back button, and press the "Additional Cards" button to view your charges one card at a time.If the problem persists, please contact American Express Customer Services. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

This again, is a known issue that pops up every now and again. They're fiddling away in the back end doing things like website maintenance etc.

Thanks, JohnK - All the usual points (1.5 points per dollar) have posted now - I suspect it was because I switched from the Amex Rewards Maximiser to a Platinum Credit Card yesterday, but most of the transactions were on the Rewards maximiser before it was cancelled in the afternoon. All transactions have appeared now (but of course no bonus points in blocks of 5K). Thanks for following up on this.

thanks snufl

do you mean the part which says

The amended terms and conditions apply to all Cardmembers who enrolled in the offer from Saturday, 20 September

what about receiving the postcard bit or is that for people registering after the 20 sept ?

Your guess is as good as mine. I read it as the new T&Cs applied to anyone registered from 20 Sept. In that case people who registered prior to the 20th would remain on the original T&Cs regardless of whether they received a card or not.

However after reading it all again, someone else could interpret it another way. That the original T&Cs applied to those with a postcard who registered before the 20th.

Only Amex can give you a definite answer.

Just to remind you that for those who registered before 20 Sept, there is a public link on AMEX's webpage about this promotion. So everyone could register via phone or online, even without the postcard.
Obviously, the AMEX people should honor the old T&Cs for all these people.

Just checked my AMEX account, and so far have received
3 lots of 5000 points up to 26/09  and I registered for both promo,s
from the net.

I agree and would add those with a mailed invitation who registered before the promo was suspended. If I was file51, received the postcard and registered on the 21st, I would not be happy with the cap.

The main reason my registration date was the 21st is they could not do it due to technical issues on the 20th when I called and advised to call back the following day.

As per some of my previous posts, I have all the details written down so will send an email and letter to the appropriate people within Amex and state my case. No need to make threats or take things further without doing the basics first.
