I think it's not possible to request an upgrade on a ticket booked with a voucher...

Do tickets booked with vouchers book into a "Classic Award" class...?

Frequent Flyer - Using Points - Flight Upgrades - About Flight Upgrades

A voucher is just another form of paying for a revenue fare so it depends on the fare booked - sale/red-e-deal, flexi saver, fully flex etc. You can select the type during the booking process.
I don't know about checking the fare bucket during the voucher booking process, sometimes I've just done an equivalent revenue search for the same flight to correspond with the equivalent fare conditions/price and checked it that way...

I would have thought booking a (Domestic) red-e-deal, which is normally / usually upgradable (http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUAURED1JQ/), on a voucher would provide the same result as a cash booking, however by the looks of it this is not the case... Happy to be proven wrong though ;)

After all, is it not that the voucher is already a booking when purchased...? Just not ticketed...? If this is the case then the voucher might book into a restricted fare class, this is unfortunate if you are looking to upgrade as it is not made clear when purchasing a voucher. It would be interesting to know if a voucher was used on a Flexi, and if it also booked into a restricted fare class...?

There is an issue with upgrades in general at present, not related to gift vouchers that I am aware of.

I booked a couple of my flights last year in Flexi (ie. ADL/BNE with $500 from voucher and $56 additional payment) but can't tell the fare class from the e-tickt and of course, would need to ring CS to get the old details from the reloc

Bofter, can you confirm what fare class has been ticketed with your booking using the voucher...? It's not "E" by any chance is it...?

Fare class = O, code = OPTDEAL

I note the comment that there is a general problem with upgrades at the moment. I hope I am overly cynical in wondering whether this will be resolved on/after 14 Jan when the required points for my upgrade increases from 12,000 to 15,000.

This is a domestic booking so the international restriction on upgrading shouldn't apply

Ok, thanks Bofter.... Seems that markis10 has the answer that there is currently "issues" with upgrades in general at the moment, hence not a voucher issue it seems...

For the record, my Fare Class E (EPTSALE) is a domestic booking which has "bucket-loads" of U availability, but no instant upgrade luck for me too...

Call and they'll process the upgrade over the phone. Easy.

My upgrade over the phone was successful. The phone agent confirmed that there were indeed 5 upgrade seats available (as per ExpertFlyer) and that in her unprompted view the booking starting as a voucher was likely to be the problem.

That confirms what I thought was the problem....

Just called and I was told similar... "the booking starting as a voucher was likely to be the problem"

But at least I have my upgrade

As indicated by Markis10, there have been issues with the automatic processing of domestic upgrades when U class was already available for booking that were not made with gift vouchers.

Thanks. Other than hearing this from you and markis10 I would have never known. One of the benefits of being a member of aff I guess...:D

Just look the booking up on www.qantas.com/yourbooking .
I had tried prior to posting my comment above but was given an error message:

Given it was only flown in Sept 13, I thought it might still have been available.

Has anyone booked and received the second voucher for the remainder? My "change" was only $2 but I think someone mentioned that if I was to use the voucher, apart from saving $2 I would save the credit card fees.

There could be a glitch there as discovered by blackcat20! Call customer care and ask for the voucher to be created for the residual amount.

Anyone know if there is a minimum to create a voucher from the remaining credit? My "leftover" seems to have been swallowed up by QF.

Nope, had $1 remaining and it has vanished. I know its only $1 but its a bit cheeky.

19 minutes on the phone, and apparently it will take up to a week for the voucher to be created because it's for "an unusual amount". She did try the "vouchers arent created for those small amounts" but I read out the T&Cs. I don't need the dollar but its the principle (plus it'll save me a booking fee somewhere along the way).

Voucher still hasn't shown up either.
