We sailed for 7 hours through Prinz Christian Sound on the bottom east corner of Greenland. Amazingly impressive. Some have told us that Antarctica beats it by a long way for impressiveness but this was something for us to remember in the best weather they have had in 10 years.

Where did the inflatable come from michael, not off the Whisper or the Sojourn surely ?
Was there one of those pesky little xpedition ships hanging around ?

The zodiacs came from the Seabourn Quest. There were about 6 of them with a dozen people in each. They have the ability to deploy them. I thought that was very impressive.

Heading out shortly on a photography tour. We are tendering at Narsarsuaq. It is another glorious morning about 10C but the spot is a touch desolate so we aren't quite sure where we'll find something to photograph!

PC sound doesn't appear to have changed much in 4 years-

Sail out from Reykjavik.

Reykjavik is very interesting but elsewhere in Iceland is almost bizarre!

I remember flying to Reykjavik and just before landing, seeing all the green colours - like in your photos. It's just like Hawaii I thought! Until you find out that the green is moss on lava. :) When touring some of the thermal areas outside Reykjavik in October (I think it was), I really felt that I was on another planet. Straight out of a science fiction movie. It's one of the most bizarre and fascinating places I have ever visited.

I'd agree Austman. The nature of cruising is that you are never anywhere very long; the destination is the ship. But we'd love to go back and see more.

Something that I didn't think I'd be able to say 12 months ago but I can now comment on - a Greenland-Antarctica comparison. We also sailed though Prinz Kristiansund on our way from spending a week on the east coast of Greenland and it was pretty spectacular but didn't compare to Scoresbysund further up the east coast. We both think east Greenland was an other worldy experience. Our Antarctica experience is not the usual peninsula one. We saw Antarctica from the Ross Sea. The Transantarctic Mountains rearing up in the distance looking like a water colour painting. The Ross Ice sheet disappearing into the distance in either direction. Was one better than the other? Antarctica only wins due to what was involved in getting there (and penguins just maybe) but from a scenery perspective equal first.

Having also cruised the Antarctic continent,Greenland and South Georgia the prize goes to South Georgia.
But we are returning to Greenland in 2019.It is still a great experience.

If the weather is a factor it has been superb for the last 2 days. Greenland has been great but, as I say, others on board think it palls compared to Antarctica. But we are in Greenland and the memory will linger for a long time!

South Georgia remains top spot in been there list.. (not that I have been anywhere much.. )
Toasting Shackleton at the grave in light snow sipping bubbly.. sigh….
If we live long enough us oldies will be able to walk across South Georgia without getting our feet wet...
