100K Bonus Points on Qantas Ultimate Amex (exp 7 Oct)

Received this offer by email this afternoon - Your friend will earn a bigger bonus of 100,000 Qantas Points if they apply by 7 October 2020 using your referral link, are approved and spend $3,000 within the first three months.* They’ll also receive a $450 Qantas Travel Credit~, plus earn up to 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases.



In this new promotion, referral codes generated from qantas' card companion - rather than from amex' website - offer 100k for the applicant and 60k for the referee.

Some things to consider when applying for this card, based on my experience:

• Amex conducts a credit check after you finish page one of the application form - not after completing the whole form. So only start entering details into the form if you intend to finish it!
• You can activate the two free Qantas Lounge passes, which are delivered to you digitally, with any spend over $1 with the 'Qantas Air Australia' merchant. Here is one very affordable way to do it that worked for me last time I held the card.
• Flights commencing overseas, shopping at the Qantas mall, Qantas Hotels, Rental Cars etc do not activate the lounge passes.
• The minimum credit limit is $3k - keep your application low if you're only in it for the bonus points and want to reduce the impact on your credit score!
• Finally, unless you absolutely must - hold off on applying for supplementary cardholders at first. Amex often send out offers to give you a bonus 5k points for adding them later - so if you're a little patient you may be rewarded - and if none come around by the time Shop Small or other cashback offers approach, you can add them then!

• From the Qantas website - there is a temporary increase to the annual referral limit for this promotion. The amount of Bonus Points you may receive under the ‘Refer a Friend’ program is capped at 200,000 Points for referrals made via Qantas.com between 10 September and 7 October 2020. This is in addition to the 200,000 points cap you receive for the year under the ‘Refer a Friend’ program. So if your link is used three times, please ask a mod to remove your link to ensure another AFF member can get the full 60k bonus.
• To generate this link (for the 100k/60k offer), I had to click through an email received on 19 September that took me to the Qantas Card Companion site, and link my card (just required logging in with QFF details). If you didn't receive the offer by email, it's worth checking there.
• To find the link, click on "your cards" and then "refer now"
  
• My usual referral link, from the Amex website, is showing a far lower offer amount (65k). So to all referrers and applicants - please triple check the card you're applying for is the full 100k bonus!

That simultaneously feels like yesterday and also a lifetime ago! Going back to last year's thread, it seems like that offer had a higher minimum spend of $4500.

My strategy with this card is generally to go for the minimum possible credit limit (3k) to facilitate churning with (theoretically) a lower impact to credit scores so I like the lower spend target.

But by all means if you'd rather wait for a higher offer, please do - from time to time Qantas also offer 10k or 20k "apply for a new Qantas earning card" that you can stack with amexes, and it's been about 5 months since one of those.
