Too much hassle for me to go to Singapore atm....and $800+ for Covid tests for a couple, forget it! Booked to go to Malaysia at Easter and hoping the border will be open by then. Hotels, food etc and things to do much better in Malaysia. 😉

COVID tests shouldn’t cost $400 each. Predeparture RAT $59, Arrival PCR $125 SGD, predeparture ART in SIN $20. All up about $200 each.

Only going by what is quoted in article:
"The cost of meeting the various mandatory COVID-19 testing requirements would have been around $400"

I guess $200/$400 it's same same, a significant add on to the airfare. Milelion has a good summary of current testing costs in SIN that they seem to update fairly regularly

If and when I can go to Malaysia at Easter, I believe I will need one PCR test on departure from Sydney and one on arrival in Malaysia. I will need a PCR to leave Malaysia via Sin back to Sydney; if I didn't transit through Sin , I believe a RAT would suffice. ..x2 for both us means that Covid testing for travelling is a significant cost to factor in. :(

Singapore is a no brainer at present - high booster rates and rational COVID measures allow you to relax.

Other Asian countries can not come anywhere close - I would not be comfortable going to Malaysia, possibly Thailand but the risk of border closures and large uncontrolled outbreaks is comparatively high to Singapore.

The arrival experience at SIN (as of Jan 22) is incredibly smooth and efficient from clearing customs to completing PCR swab.

My test results came back in 4 hours which I waited for in my hotel and then I was good to go.

All restaurants, shops, most attractions are open now - this is probably the closest you can get to normal on a holiday right now.

My arrival experience this week ran smoothly, the biggest delay was waiting 10 mins for surge pricing on my ride home to go away (I wasn't go to pay $40 for a ride that's normally $20!). Results came back in 5 hours.

As long as you are not in a group of >5 people, or wanting to drink alcohol at a venue after 10:30pm. Things become rather subdued after 10:30pm (except in Arab St area, where restaurants seem to be unaffected by by the 10:30pm alcohol curfew, as they have a significant customer base of Muslims, many of whom who don't drink alcohol anyway).

I think the difference is mainly that Jessica decided to take a predeparture PCR in SIN for $160 (maybe perhaps at the time a supervised RAT wasn't acceptable yet for preflight coming back to Australia). Then add daily RATs for days 2 to 7 in Singapore ($6 per test from a pharmac_). And I would also add mobile data (as I would usually live of wifi when travelling lol) for the TraceTogether SG app.

Sounds like quite a lot of hassle, especially the daily testing and overnight stay. I stayed in Cambodia over Christmas and Jan and can recommend it if you want to save money and have less impositions.

VTL via Singapore (same pre-departure requirements as per the article), free RAT on arrival and then no other major conditions. Self-quarantine if you happen to test positive on arrival.

Vaccination rate in the country is 3+ doses for around 95% of the whole population (age 6+) and 4th is being planned. Mandatory mask-wearing except for eating and drinking, vaccine checks at most venues - printed Aus certificate was accepted.

Already booked to go back in March through Easter.

Hi
can you transit or do you have to stay 24 hours with test ??
have booking Melbourne to Singapore ,then Singapore to Krabi ??
interested in your comments
mike

Are overnight transiting requirements the same as staying in Singapore?

You may be back at the airport departing for your next destination before the PCR test result is received.

I’m assuming it is as you are clearing customs and entering the country.

Hi
flying in with Singapore airlines and at this stage later in morning Flying Scoot to Krabi Can I still do this ???
mike

When you enter the country the testing and documentation requirements for entering the country apply. No exceptions for those leaving again that same day.

As the Yotel is landside, you will need to isolate in your room until you get your results.
