I went along to an ACT Government event last week where an executive from the Canberra Airport Group was talking. He mentioned that there will be an announcement in a months time about a route from CBR to somewhere in North America. I have a feeling that CBR may be an in-between stop on an existing route. Don't have any more details than this. Anyone else know more?

Interesting! I wonder if we'll be seeing this a bit more often?

The intermediate stop comment is also interesting. I wonder if United might do something like SFO-CBR-ADL? Or maybe something like SFO-AKL-CBR in order to be able to pick up local traffic on both sectors?

If that does happen would expect a large amount of ACT taxpayer money will be thrown at the airline.
For a time was a WLG-CBR-SIN SQ flight. From what I read was WLG property rate payer/ ACT tax payer subsidised.

The treaty between AU and US allows for unlimited routes and frequencies so there's no requirement to do a QR-style stop somewhere to serve another AU destination.

I can't see a direct service happening - there's not even a direct flight to NZ at the moment.

Perhaps that is the new route - NZ CBR-AKL allowing one stop services to North America.

I'm skeptical but given past taxpayer funding of sq it can't be ruled out. The obvious candidates are NZ, or FJ.

Highly likely to be an AKL service connecting to an existing/upcoming NZ-US flight which means either NZ or QF.

CBR-AKL-JFK a decent bet.

Cant see the demand for CBR-USA nonstop.

I wonder if this is in any way related:

Fiji Airways doing a one-off NAN-CBR-NAN flight next Friday.

So, looking at “What’s on in Canberra”. This appeared. US DJ maybe doing the Bula route…😁

Love the venue name….!
