I assume this will be around twice per week on a Boeing 737 MAX, timed to connect to/from LAX, SFO and YVR. i.e. a morning departure from Nadi and an afternoon flight back.

Who benefits from a NAN-CBR? (paywalled)
Probably those connecting to/from the North American bank of late evening flights (LAX, SFO, YVR, etc).

The WBs usually do a short run to the Australian East Coast cities during the day before returning in the evening to form the late evening North American bank.

I suspect it might do well for CBR-NAN point to point during the winter (and possibly in the summer too), but I think they are overstating the benefit of connecting to North American services.

Just having a look on the QF site vs FJ site, prices to LAX on QF for the week I chose at random was $500 cheaper than FJ, and QF offered a morning departure via SYD and an evening departure via BNE, whereas FJ only has the midday departure. The QF options are slightly quicker.

Still surprised NZ doesn't think it can make AKL-CBR work - would think that is far more sustainable route than this one.

Then there's the issue of a 2 weekly service to CBR that would be a disaster if it was cancelled or misconnected. I guess they're either putting you on QF to/from SYD or on a bus.

I wonder if FJ coded pax in J will get to use the QF dom J lounge or just the QP on departure? Or neither?

Will depend on what FJ organise since it’s outside OW rules...

Well FJ and VA do 'interline'.. so who knows? 🤔

Doubt it - interlines mean nothing, most major carriers interline with other major carriers (eg QF interlines with AA, UA, DL, AS, HA, AC)

FJ contract QF for most of their lounges, I'd say the only reason they'd go VA is if QF actively denied them.
