130sc to Gold (MEL)

The poster is entitled to disagree with my reasoning - but I take exception to him distorting the truth.

It now appears that when I said he had obtained at least 100SC from his status run slash holiday to Fiji I was very conservative - he now admits that due to routings or class of travel (or both) he gained 550SC!

So it seems the entire 700SC he requires to obtain Gold status will be made up of status runs. This (from my point of view) is insane, but since we are inside the asylum I guess that figures!

Don't worry - I'm leaving now for some fresh air outside and will be in a much better mood for it.

Smack, the air will do you good Mate....................you need to read the OP more carefully. OP had double SC deals on two trips.

He not mad...he smart.

Good luck to the OP - if you want Gold go get it.

But, I actually agree with Smackbum's original post, assuming I understand his point.

In a nutshell I believe Smack is saying that he finds it perhaps odd that the OP is prepared to make status runs to reach Gold when it appears that the OP does not fly very often (hence the need to make status runs for practically the whole 700 points needed) and therefore will not really gain much from having status.

Status is only useful if you actually fly, otherwise it's simply a nice gold-coloured card in your wallet. This echoes Smack's point about status being an outcome not a goal.

However, each to their own and perhaps the OP has plans to fly more in the future.

Cheers,

Zeit

I think the OP should go for it. I would probably do your first idea to BNE, as I don't see the point in getting more SC than required. But then it also isn't the most efficiency use of points.

I'm not sure why you would think that it was all from status runs. Re-read the OP, it says that he did "the NAN run". There is a whole thread here on "the NAN run". I suggesting doing the NAN run for status, SWMBO said that I can only do that if we have a holiday in fiji. Either way I would be doing "the NAN run" but only one of those ways would be a status run. kapesh!

Then there is your 100SC for "the NAN run". Have you not followed the thread on the NAN run? The full run is something like BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN return. Even in discount Y with double SC, as mentioned in the OP, I get 150 from that.

Anyway, bad assumption a holiday is not a status run.

Time to lock this thread, me thinks. Question has been asked and answered. If anyone has additional insights and wish to add to the thread, please PM myself or the mods to re-open.

Thanks
