1st Visit to New York & Yes I am a Tourist

irv take subway to Coney Island Sat or Sun - crowded but just total fun - you can eat a Nathan's hot dog and do all the corny things the yanks do - we loved that trip.

High Line a must - if you like steak then Gallaghers or Uncle Jacks - B.B.Kings Blues Club - if you are grown ups and enjoy grown ups bars then Lillies off Times Square.

Central Park for sure - god I loved New York - what a sensational city to visit.

Hadn't even thought about Coney Island (more research) but will give the hotdogs a miss. The Highline and Central Park are a must, will also look into Gallaghers or Uncle Jacks, B.B.Kings Blues Club.

Im just wondering if anyone has done a full 1 day tour in NYC that hits some of the highlights of the city? Was it worth it or better to just plan everything on my own. Mother and I will be there for a week in mid-October. Any advice is much appreciated

The Guggenheim New York is another must visit.

The Frank Lloyd Wright building is wonderful. Even if you just walk past it and look up at it from various angles and admire the shape given the rectilinear versions all around you.

I recently discovered a much smaller version that FLW designed just off Union Square in SFO, a sort of practice for the bigger gallery.

We have spent a lot of time in NYC - our son lived there for 5 years. ( We were visiting twice a year then. Three times a year when our grand-daughter was born. ) It is a great place to walk. I remember one day I wore my pedometer and I walked 20kms. :shock: I must have been shopping !


Just remember most museums and galleries are close on Mondays.

And if you want to have a Michelin star meal we highly recommend Le Bernadin - but you have to love seafood. And go for lunch, it is cheaper, and there is a dress code.

are you serious 20 km is really big way which you did , especially these days which are really hot NYC

I've never done a day tour in NYC. I prefer a hop on/hop off bus. Touches all the important tourist bits, is cheaper than a tour and far more flexible.

There are a number of different HOHO bus routes. Have a look at it on line to see which may suit you. Eg, you can do a morning one in one direction, and then another later going in the opposite direction. There are also night tours. On TripAdvisor, under the NYC forum, you will see many references to other people's experiences and questions and how best to buy the tickets with discounts.

Sadly, the FAO Schwarz store is closing sometime next month.

Times Square intrigues me! I was there this year the morning after the big (non) blizzard and it was eerily quiet!
