Burlington can have some surprises. I saw a YSL mini classic duffel in beige the other day for $480. I couldn't find an accessories assistant to open up the glass case for me to look at it so I left in a huff. Went back today and of course it's gone :(
Absolutely kicking myself now !!

We did not bother with Woodbury Common but went to the Jersey Outlets The Mills at Jersey Gardens - A Shopping Center In Elizabeth, NJ 07201-4901 - A Simon Property Bus from the Port Authority, more old fashioned than Woodbury but still bargains to be had and from memory think they have a Burlington there too, just need to be careful that you are at the Bus Stop for the last bus back to Manhattan as it gets packed. Been to Century 21 a few times but just so busy and chaotic. Agree for the first time visitor there is so much to see and do that I would do the shopping in the City, unless you can find a spare day. One of our favourite things to do is go the Baptist Church in Brooklyn and attend a service and listen to the Choir...amazing https://www.brooklyntabernacle.org/the-choir

I usually always book a hop on hop off bus for the first day or two in a new city. Points out the things i wanna see and gives a sense of direction.

I visited Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum because i wanted to go inside a Concorde. I did and loved it.

Thinking about squeezing this in between a couple of meetings next month. Could never get the family motivated, so it seems like a perfect opportunity.

When i visited (March 15) the Concorde display was there but not open

I agree. The tip when shopping for me is to step into a shop at opening time when you have the place to yourself for long enough to get a bit of shopping in. Burlington works for me. I'm not so keen on C21 - I got shopping fatigue really quickly there.

Hated this place, couldn't move, so busy

HOHO is useful in some places, I especially found that when I had a spare weekend in DC, which is spread out. In NYC however, the traffic is pretty bad for busses, but it is a bit easier at least to orient one's self. North is more or less uptown (as it should be on a proper map) and south is downtown.

That's my memory - haven't been back (C21) since 1998.....

We went to Century 21 only once, before 9/11, it was messy, disorganised, no staff, rabbit warren type of a place. We never went back. IMO Macys or Lord & Taylors on sale is much better. We did do Jersey gardens once as well. But with a lot of the smaller outlet malls, it can be hit and miss. And if you are there when it is a major sale time well then that is just a bonus.

I've done a couple of trips to Woodbury and if you're a shopper then yeah, it's worth a trip. But do your research on what stores are there that you definitely want to visit, ensure you check on their website for coupons and also get the one from the customer service desk.

Admittedly my 2 visits were both when the dollar was very much in our favour. More recent trips I've curbed my shopping and just stick to the department stores etc including the Nordstrum outlet in Union Square (I think that's where it is).

My wife hated C21, said customer service was non existent.

It is true that it gets crazy and it's very much DIY in most departments. I had a slight debacle at the sunglasses counter, with a lot of people vying for attention of staff. But, I did come away with a beautiful pair of Prada sunnies for AUD$100. Totally worth it. Also I'll say the staff behaviour is rather appalling, on multiple occassions I've overheard staff have rediculously unprofessional conversations. However I found the staff in mens suits to be amazing (they were older, not being ageist here). And ...coming away with an Ermenegildo Zegna suit for AUD$750, including tailoring to jacket? Totally, totally worth it :)

My one regret was not buying this Viviene Westwood shirt. Geeze, totally rock star. It was AUD$275 and I just couldn't do it. But, wish I had.

Another less crazy discount store mentioned above is full name Nordstrom Rack.

It depends somewhat on if you are a quite young person who is a tiny size and absolutely has to get a bargain, then C21 would be of interest. Best thing for the adults is go to the nearest coffee shop of which there are quite a few now: Culture and Bluestone come to mind.

You mean the Australian Embassy? ;) Look, I'll admit Bluestone Lane is probably about the best long black I found in nyc, but hell that's not hard right? Chock full of aussies though and very busy.

On another note and with the walking tips earlier in the thread, one thing I did on my last trip was walk the entire length of Central Park. So from Columbus Circle all the way to 110th. I took the subway back, admittedly, but it was a beautiful spring day and really if you were to power-walk it flat out without stopping, I'd say an hour. Of course you'll be checking out bits of it as you go and in some parts of the northern end you forget you are still in the city.

I think you mean the Australian Consul - the Embassy is 200 miles away on DC! :)

I just realised when I went back on this forum I stated we walked 259 klm in NYC, should read 159klm, fat fingers . Still glad to see the post running, especially as we head up to the migration season to the Northern Hemisphere.

I prefer Little Collins for coffee. That or Third Rail.

Another bonus of Little Collins is that it's not too far from The Burger Joint!
