It's appears to be a status pax platinum private offer only. Nothing to do with AMEX platinum.

Plat here who didn't get it.

Hoping there was an error with the mailing list - would be massively disappointed if VFF has adopted QFF's 'random' and highly unfair 'targeted' promo strategy.

I got it yesterday.

Why do you say unfair? It's a business. If VA or QF choose to make a selected offer then it is their prerogative!

From a comms point of view it looks a little desperate to be discounting so heavily so early but oh well, they must have some seats to sell!!

.... And of course I have zero points to throw at it.

Don't forget you can transfer points from other programs (Amex MR, Westpac Altitude, etc.) and get a20% bonus until Oct. 31.

Well, the product is new. Many airlines have promotions when they offer a new product because it takes some time to get people used to using the new product, and until then there is loads of free capacity on the planes. It also makes sense to target the promotion at Plat customers because those are the most likely to use it later when you have to pay the regular price.

Why no single travellers questioning the morality of such offer? Did they not question it when the last airline offered such a product?;-)

Actually while I accept airlines work out the best offer for their marketing and flight yields why can't they have a '75% fare for singles and 50% for companions' promotion? Ie "Platinum bonus offer: 75% business class fare price to our most loyal customers or save even more by flying with a friend for 50% of the standard business fare for you both".

That way they cover everyone.

They already do, sort of. They currently call them "Happy Hour" and "Sale" fares. Admitedly, we don't see too many PE sale fares, but they are shown so I assume they do come up from time to time. I'm also assuming these will convert to J sales when PE vanishes.
