20% Reduction in Platinum/Platinum One Retention Thresholds (July/Aug/Sept Membership Year Ends)

Which is exactly what I said - it is all about 2023 cut-off, there is zilch support for 2024 cut-off.

Status always carries into the next year once earnt. But this year a lot of people wont have actually earnt it, but get it anyway because of a last minute 20% disocunt.
It's also what I said from the first.

The SC rollover doesn’t help with lifetime SCs. They are yours that you’ve previously earned, and are deducted from the number accruing as Lifetime SCs the previous year. In the first year of status support, there was a grant of extra SCs, which did help the lifetime quest, but not so the last couple of years.
It counts if it’s manually applied, which happened to many

The 15/30K thank you points also qualified for PC if manually applied.

Noone is loosing because of this 20% reduction, I don't agree with the negatif feeling of this status suport, on a rational level.
It's no different to the earlier complaints from those with year ending in July-December. They didn't get an extension but the Jan-June ones did.

They moan because someone else got a benefit and they didn't.
They feel entitled to another person's benefit.
One person getting a bonus does not mean harm has been caused to you.

Do they whinge in other aspects of life where a similar thing happens?
Someone else gets a discount on buying apples and they don't?

Not rational at all. They falsely believe it's a zero sum game.

Well because the announcement was only 2 weeks before the end of the July FF year many people people may have already taken one or more flights they really didn't need to specifically to retain status, so are entitled to complain as had they not bothered they could have saved the cost of those flights. Whilst someone who was well under requalification point is getting a free extension.

If this support was going to be offered should have been advised back in August so equal playing field for all those flying.

These people may get annoyed but it is unlikely that they will walk away from QFF as a form of protest. This issue, if you can call it that, will probably be forgotten in a few weeks time. Anyone doing status runs are clearly highly engaged with the QFF program.

The people who were gifted status however will likely remember QF's "generosity" for at least the next year and will probably generate more sales for Qantas.

The beauty of hindsights.

Wouldn't it be great if say Qantas was publishing a calendar for it's DSC promotion 12 months ahead, say our local couch store telling us in advance when the couch we want to buy will be on sale, and so on? Then we would all be able to make informed decision on equal field right?

Feels like we sometime agree missing out is part of life, complain for a few minutes and move on. But oh boy in this thread, many feels what Qantas did is unacceptable.

This has predictably been in the last week of March for the last 3 years, but not really equivalent because everyone can take advantage of it when offered, its not limited to just those who failed to engage.

say our local couch store telling us in advance when the couch we want to buy will be on sale, and so on?

Again retail sales are pretty predictable, lounges always on sale Easter Long Weekend and in June for EOFY. And also sales price available to all.

The point still stands, those complaining have not been harmed.
If people are flying for the sole purpose of getting status, they're not flying frequently enough.
If money is an issue, they shouldn't be flying at all. Or they should just make more money.
Making a voluntary purchase is not self harm - that's literally what the complainants are saying, they believe they have been harmed by choosing to spend their own money.
No one is entitled to complain. The complaint is still illogical in any case.
Equal playing field is the wrong way to look at it, there's no competition amongst passengers. It's a relationship between the individual and the company.

If you’re not yet LTG, the status run will have got you that little bit closer to LTG.

If you are LTG and willing to do >200SC in status runs then clearly you are comfortable with considerable discretionary spending on flights for a short term benefit.

If/when I reach LTG I suspect that I will find status runs for large numbers of SCs much harder to justify.

I do see the point and while I think QF could have done something for those that already qualified (who were Plat/P1), I'm not whining about it personalky. Indeed, I reckon those from Oct-Dec anniversary dates have a bigger "claim" to feeling hard done by tbh, but again QF has drawn a line. As I wrote earlier, I think they could have chosen better, but that they've done this is an unexpected bonus for those that have benefited.

I definitely agree with the point that those who either made the effort to attain the required SC's on their own - by natural travel or even chasing - don't really lose out by what QF's doing, since had QF not changed anything nothing would change for them. I suppose it's human nature to see someone get a "discount" as it were and feel a bit frustrated. A bit like if you buy an item, and it goes on sale a month later I guess.

The other thing that occurs to me around all this is that this is only of concern to those that actually care a great deal about status - which is possibly a smaller group than one might think in a niche forum like this. Also remembering that QF's change is only affecting high tier members - WP/P1 anyway - those folks who already are flying a fair bit - for work, or for pleasure - and if it's for work, that will be dictated by the company mostly.. and if for pleasure, then those folks likely have the resources anyway - and probably had planned it out well ahead anyway (if retaining their WP/P1 status was important).

I wrote this because I had a friend message me a week or so ago. I'd gifted her WP status which had survived through covid etc and is going away in a month or two.. she was flying EK and KL and had actually NO idea about priority check in until some EK staffer noted her in a huge Y queue and apparently pointed out she could use the F line, and even KL gave her some decent treatment(which is interesting)(. She was messaging me with endless thanks and praise and wondering what sort of indecent proposal would get her Plat to be extended lol. This is a not too frequent, but fairly savvy flyer (so I didn't think to remind her of things like priority check in acccess and so on, only lounges).. and I've met others over the years who have had Gold or Platinum status and seemingly not really understood, or cared, all that entails. We do need to be mindful that members of forums like this are quite niche in both interest levels and knowledge of all the benefits at times. There actually are those people out there who don't know, despite having higher levels of status.

imo.

I received the email. Have requal’d WP at the lower tier but would have achieved the standard 1200 anyway before the end of July based on return flights from my current travels. At least I don’t have to worry about late posting of those SCs!
Fortunately the low bar is in play. 200 SCs are MIA from two CX flights over a week ago and 2 days to run on my status year….

Oh well, I guess I’ll need to lodge a claim to crawl forward to LTP and 9000 odd miles.

I passed the threshold for the reduced WP retainment yesterday, but app/web is still showing that I need to retain another xx_ SCs to retain. I have all those SCs and more coming from missing DSCs and MH flights yet to be credited, but has anyone else with an Aug year ending membership gone above the 960SC threshold (but with less than 1,200) and status already shows extended? Figure maybe it won't reflect until 01-Sep.

Cheers,
Matt.

As per my previous post, I requalified end Jul with the lower threshold because 200 SCs went missing for thee weeks. I received an email a few weeks before telling me I’d requal’d. The app took a while to catch up but pretty sure it ticked over before the end of Jul.

Oops - not sure how I missed that :D

Ended up getting locked in today:

And now to wait it out a bit before chasing down my missing 425 DSCs from last month.
2023-24 should be my LTG attainment year.

Cheers,
Matt.

Do QF codeshare flights post in the same time frame as QF operated flights, or in closer to the time frame of the operating partner?

I had QF4025 (JL36) a little over 3 weeks ago. It hasn't posted yet. It's the last flight from my holiday remaining to post.

Any plans post LTG? Perhaps pursuing lifetime status on another alliance like Star Alliance or SkyTeam? Or is it still worth chasing Platinum?

I’m not sure I’ve have an interest in targeting QF LTP, even though I may have the years to do it (in my early 40s at this point). If I can’t continue to maintain WP, then I’m probably more likely to move most personal spend to better quality J carriers, with better timing for our movements, like SQ. Early days though - in fact not even there yet - so still very much TBD
