Did ours online very easy. So we can do the census on line, we can shop and use CC online, do our banking online but we can't vote online, I just don't get it, would save our Govt. a stack of $.

I did my form online, last week!

I thought I would add a few random questions, AFF related of course.

a. What is your closest airport to where you were born, (grew up if you would rather not be so exact)
b. Have you changed airports from this time 5 years ago.
c. Are you likely to fly more in 2011 than 2010.
d. What is the furthest airport you have been to from your home airport. use Great Circle Mapper
e. How much time last week did you spend researching upcoming flights/trips in hours.
  1. LHR, born; or HKG, grew-up.
  2. In 2006 my nearest airport was WKA.
  3. I think I’ll be flying slightly less.
  4. Longest flight was HKG-CPT but I think GCM might have been further away.
  5. All up probably 3/4. Been a slow week.

a. What is your closest airport to where you were born, (grew up if you would rather not be so exact)

The nearest registered airport would be YBAF; nearest major airport was BNE.

b. Have you changed airports from this time 5 years ago.

Yes - nearest is now MLB (or MEL if we're only counting major airports).

c. Are you likely to fly more in 2011 than 2010.

Yes (though that wasn't the plan originally)

d. What is the furthest airport you have been to from your home airport. use Great Circle Mapper

DUB

e. How much time last week did you spend researching upcoming flights/trips in hours.

4 or 5, at a guess.

Consultation with SWMBO showed that the hotel form was shorter. It also asked for your normal home address.
I did glance at the form they left in my room yesterday and yes it was shorter.

So how does one define normal home address? I live in a hotel room in Brisbane most of the time but all my mail goes to my parents house in Sydney.

Ask your accountant! (You know my thoughts on your particular one's very conservative advice.;))

Hard in your case, but it can be anywhere really if we look at capital gains tax, for example. I'm 3 nights in hotel and 4 at home

sounds interesting I might have to find an accountant. ;)

Unfortunately not much one can do unless the company pays LAFHA.

Also I don't believe one can do anything with claiming expenses if accepting a job in another state.

Say's your accountant! Of course your situation could be simply and legally restructured ... it brings us back to your question "how does one define normal home address?".

Thought there should be a AFF Census, since it is Australian Census Night.

First Question, How did you complete the census.

1. Form Provided.
2. Online Only.
3. Form Provided, then wondered how easy it would be to do online.

We have gone over it with the accountant a number of times. He has also called the ATO and the rules are quite clear on travel costs for a full-time employee.

A contractor is different. A company is different as well. But me as a full-time employee cannot claim anything.

I'm in the same boat. Of course, I often have meetings at different workplaces on the same day that I then travel directly home from the meeting. As I don't use an accountant and rely on the information in tax pack it does provide something. Just need to work on your time management and scheduling ;)
