2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

I'm still ummining and arring over getting one of the Vintec. I do have some very good wines that need taking care of for many years and the current situation is only 'OK' without being ideal.

The main thing that's holding me back is that I don't have a good place to put either the smaller or larger versions, especially for long term cellaring use. The best place for it would be under the stairs, but this is a small enclosed space and I think the machine would be forever working against itself - cooling in a space that would get warm from the unit itself.

Question: Are people buying these for long term cellaring (that is, you would fill it up and essentially forget it for years except for the very occasional extraction) or for short term, especially for whites (you would turn it over in maybe one or two years)?

I've got one already and I'm looking to get another because I've "overfilled" the fridge with all the wine I want to keep long term. Previously I used to store most of these long term cellaring wines at a wine storage facility, but the cost involved made my decision to buy a wine fridge easy. I've only got a modest collection of wines - around 150, but the one's in the wine fridge are some of my very good wines which I've bought for collecting and/or drinking on special occasions - such as some Penfolds wines - Grange, RWT, 407's, St Henri's, some Cullens - Diana Madeline, some Henschke Hill of Grace, some Chateau Mouton 2000.
Then I've got a lot of what I call everyday drinking wine - Amelia Park, Glenlofty, Hewitson, Wynns VA/Black, Cherubino etc....which I'm storing in my bar but with some of these I'd like them to put into long term storage (i.e. if they are in the wine fridge, I'm less inclined to open them after having a few!), so for that reason, I'm getting another 30 bottle fridge.

Thats is why I got one of each.

I am getting the 30 bottle fridge for a few wines that I would like to cellar properly. As I have decommissioned a small freezer in the laundry, I have the perfect spot.

I just submitted my claim for 30 bottle version. I hadn't given much thought to where it will go but I'll find some space :)

Edit: my fridge will be for my few nice bottles of like to keep for a while. Being in Brisbane doesn't help wine storage.

If you have a reasonably stable temperature (e.g. under your stairs) which is 20 degrees or less -and- you're only keeping things for a year, I wouldn't bother with a fridge unless it was Grange or Chateau Lafite or something.

Thanks. The temp under the stairs does vary a bit, probably between 10 and 20 degrees (southern Tasmania!), but its enclosed via insulated walls and the good wine currently is stacked tightly in their 1/2 to 1 doz cartons at the back on a cement slab floor, ('drink short term' cartons are towards the front) so I doubt the temp in the bottles would vary that much, probably sitting at 12-14 degrees on average.

What I call good stuff is Hill of Grace (a rival for Grange and priced accordingly!) and the other better Henschke reds such as Mt Edelstone & Cyril Henschke and Rockford Basket Case and cab sav, all from the late 1990s on and looking to cellar for few more years for the '90s and more than 10 years more for the younger stuff.

A re-opinion welcome.

I wouldn't bother keeping anything for 10 years + unless it was a Mt Edelstone or similar at a minimum. In which case I'd put it in a fridge. But if your storage space stays at a constant 12-14 degrees then I'd be reasonably confident the wine's still good

Thanks again. I'd still welcome other opinions but I think I'll stay with sitting it out, mainly because I don't have anywhere neat to put the thing AND I can't see a material benefit given the current situation, especially given I'm not on the very sophisticated end of wine appreciation :) .

When I lived in Sydney I used a commercial wine storage but here in Tas I think we can get away with a bit and not see good wine turn to cough in a hurry.

I'm getting one for the transition between my rented wine storage and my wine glasses.

Ordered one of the QANTAS Epiqure bundles. Hopefully the lack of itemised receipt isn't a problem when claiming.

Just ordered my 120 bottle fridge.
Added a few nice bottles to my collection of Penfolds - RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz 2012, 2012 bin 707 cab sav. Will go along nicely with my grange, 407 389 etc.

Therein lies the value in one of these when living in QLD. I don't have a great deal of wine, but what I do have is valuable ( to me) so keeping it safe until it matures is worth the investment.

After careful consideration of what wine to order, I placed an order with Dans tonight. 5 minutes later my phone rang; Wynns had a heap of specials to offer :-| Ah well. With wish card and cash back I got a good deal anyway.
