2020 Travel Plans

Well I agree - plan B is needed - so far we've booked: 10 days Cairns and Port Douglas in early August (sure hope the Qld border opens), 5 days on NSW north coast n October, 3 days at Latitude 131 in early Nov (after receiving a half-price offer for returning guests of Bailly Lodges) - will add another week of other stuff around the Center.

Our trip to Germany starts mid-August and I am still assuming that it will go ahead. All the hotels we have booked so far are refundable except for one that was booked using CX points that were going to expire anyway. I have some train trips to book but they can wait a month or so.

In my opinion, by August the virus will be so widespread that travelling will make little difference.

I should be a political pundit - my prognostication was so laughably wrong. :D At least I booked refundable hotels and didn't book any train trips..

I'm still pondering a plan B (although it is probably more a plan G, considering how many different plans I have considered). We have a couple of trips to Falls Creek for skiing booked. We might head up to Cairns/Port Douglas in September/October. I'm also thinking about visiting Uluru.

Refund is in my Amex this morning for the hotel booking cancelled by Qantas yesterday

We almost booked a trip to SA but with all their flip flopping in the media of being open or not ‘depending’ it’s too much hassle so will just have to wait until the high court forces all states open and there is certainty.

We are open and in some parts of the state you would hardly know there is a pandemic going on. A large group of us went to the Yorke Peninsula on the weekend and the pubs and cafes were all packed and people were having a good old time. Was actually nice to sit in the pub and have a few pints and a punt

Open internally, not externally and not uniformly and unfortunately because we have people coming from 4 separate states we can't book yet....

I want to be able to fly Melbourne to Brisbane then on to Bundaberg to see my dad. But with now idea of
when borders will open i dont want to try and book anything at this stage.

Our rejigged plans include Palm cove sometime in the next few months. I want some warm weather to make up for missing Hawaii.
I hear that, this will be the first year I haven't been over seas in the last 8.

6 nights of hopefully warm weather to defrost form Sydney winter

Canberra - 4-6 Dec
2 nights for the AFF Gathering assuming it goes ahead

Qantas have yet to cancel this, so i hold a small glimmer of hope it could happen, but the realist in me fears I will be receiving a credit. Going to be interesting to try and get a booking somewhere domestic for office shutdown if this doenst happen.

We've still got QF booked to Chicago at the end of the year...

Well the Easter trip is dead in the water - cruise cancelled, just about everything else cancelled apart from BA flights (will no doubt have a long wait on the phone on Monday when their lines open).

Focussing on the Christmas trip to UK now.
Well now looking at a few nights in Hobart late September, if the wall comes down by then. Just to get away. We were thinking of a visit to Melbourne to see family, but they are in the hot zone and awaiting tests, so will put that off a while.

So the UK, was March 2020, then December 2020, now thinking maybe August 2021!! Bu**er!!!

We are talking about a trip to Hawaii for Thanksgiving in November but can't bring ourselves to book it as don't want to deal with having to possibly cancel and get stuck with travel credits. It just seems too hard at this time.

We were also thinking of a visit to Melbourne to see family after our last planned trip in April got cancelled. But she also lives in the hot zone.

My sisters-in-law (twins) have their 60th in late July and live in Qld. With all the farting around that Qld has done about this, we will not be going there - instead we are all meeting up in Evans Head for a festival of birthdays. So that's something at least.

Still coming to terms with the likelihood that it will be a long time until I see my son who lives in Dubai.

I think we will have Christmas with the family in Qld. I too hate the summer, especially now that it is usually 40 degrees here in Canberra and so am really hoping my award flight to Japan to ski in Japanuary does not get cancelled - but I expect it to, and anyway, travel insurance.

Wow until I wrote this I did not realise how down I am feeling about it all.

Sometimes vocalising/writing makes it all too real. It will happen.

It doesn't negate the loss feelings though :(

2020 has been so ....not what I expected. I know people have flippantly said " oh can't wait for this year to finish " in the past. However 2020 for many reasons has been hard on so many levels
