They can be replaced at the discretion of the Technical Director following an inspection of the damage. Not sure if flat spots meet the criteria for ‘damaged’. He still has a further 2 sets of mediums to be used. I suspect he switched to softs to ensure he progressed to Q3.
Perez I can understand, but I was surprised he didn't back off on his last lap in Q2; but of course likely due to the flat spot and not being happy enough with how any of his sets of softs would go in the race.

I stand corrected, just noticed VER has only one set of mediums available for the race.

Funnily enough I believe Kubica will technically finish ahead of Mazepin in the standings (20th vs 21st) despite him only participating in two races 😅
Would that be because Mazepin was the only driver this season to never make it out of Q1?

Because they both have 0 points, I think it's based on best finishes. They both finished 14th once. Mazepin's next best was 17th, whereas Kubica's next best was 15th so he ends up ahead.

If Verstappen can stretch the tyres to about 19-20, it might work out ok.

Also Perez might be able to hold up Hamilton if Hamilton returns from pits behind Perez
