I liked the race. Not quite dry, not quite wet made for interesting tyre discussion.

OCO was the only one to finish on the tyres he started on. I wonder how long it has been since that has happened.

Oh, what happened to RIC? He was less than a second from 10th and then dropped to 13th in the last lap.

According to Andrew Benson on the BBC:-
“To give some context to Hamilton's desire to stay out, no driver has completed a grand prix without changing tyres since Mika Salo took fifth place for Tyrrell at Monaco in 1997. The next most recent time was when Gerhard Berger won in a Benetton in Mexico in 1986.”

Fairly boring race, particularly for a wet one.
Sainz only one who really did much overtaking.
Ocon brilliant with tyres and just got 10th (was faster than Dan at the end).

Think most points Dan could have got was 4, so not a bad decision to take full engine penalties.

^ re above. Dan's tyres were gone and the two Alfa's on fresher rubber passed him easily. And almost got Ocon as wel.

Interesting, the commentators on Sky said that HAM was the last person to do that in recent times, 2011 or thereabouts IIRC.

They cited that example as him not having had a pit stop, as he changed tyres under a red flag. Not quite the same as going the distance. ;)

The greatest highlight of the race was the defence from Checo to keep Hamilton at bay.

Carlos Sainz certainly made some overtakes, but they were somewhat pedestrian in the scheme of things.

Did the tyre choice / pit stop dilemma towards the end mix it up a little? Sort of, but it was a pretty drab procession of a race really. Especially compared to some of the other races in recent times.

Yes those Mercedes seem to struggle overtaking the McLarens . BOT should not have been there and was unlucky to get spun by RIC who in turn was lucky not to be penalised.
It looks like VES has the championship now.

Hamilton and Bottas should have blocked off Max the start. Letting him drive around the outside with minimal risk was way too easy. Block the outside and middle of the road. If he wants to take the chance to duck across the track to the inside, then by all means..

Glad Max won as it's good for the sport to end Hamilton's and Mercedes' dominance

That means HAM and BOT would have to work as a team... 😂
