As requested and apologies on the much delayed opening due to you know what, let's talk about 2021 and the aspirational travel plans we may all have.

For the LadyC household, I'm hoping we will start 2021 in a State other than Victoria, probably either Queensland or Western Australia if we are ever allowed entry. The only other main holiday I am considering at this stage is for Europe in December 2021. Hoping to visiting the Christmas Markets in Vienna, some time in London and see the New Year begin in Iceland.

Depending upon the state of play in the world, we would also love some villa time in Bali during 2021 but realistically more likely to be some local short trips (Tassie, Uluru, Sydney).

So what travel plans do my fellow AFFers have for 2021?

No plans so far...maybe Margaret River if the WA government opens its borders. Darwin and Kakadu mid year perhaps and trips to Adelaide and Tasmania. I don't expect to be going OS in 2021 :( ....so have more money and time to fix the house ;)

Well, the plan was to go to Venice and Avignon. Neither will be happening in 21. I have a booking at a van park in Qld, but I'm still betting about 50:50 on whether they'll be allowing zombies to enter the state by May.

Was so excited this time last year, new countries, new rallies, sigh!

I doubt very much this will happen, but if possible to travel, I could do WRC Safari rally in Kenya, 2 weeks later Midnight Sun in Sweden (old cars), followed WRC rally in Estonia, then Eifel Rally in Germany (old cars) and then finishing with WRC rally in Finland. All in 6 weeks from late June.
Then Myanmar and Laos in October.
Won't be holding my breath for that one either... :(

Also, we now have commitments, pet wise, so that has to be taken into account as well. :)

I find it difficult to visualise a world open for travel that is saturated with active Covid.
There will probably be some opportunities to do stuff, but the t&c like cost ,comfort and prophylactic impositions may make it all too hard.
Definitely a wait and see game for me.

I moved a month of Africa from 2020 up 2021. Its not going to happen.

Currently discussing Lake Mungo, Cowra and Parkes for March 🤣

Maybe we also need a thread "what are your international travel priorities once it is SAFE to do so" - realising that "safe" will mean different things to different people.

For us 2021 (Australian travel planned but not booked) so far only includes 2 weeks in and around south part of Queensland, maybe Tassie.

International travel priorities once safe - Canada and Europe (Switzerland, Germany most likely) and the Seychelles (we had to bail out of our 2020 trip after 4 days in Cape Town mid-March - made it home a week before hotel quarantine was mandated).

Being one that requested this thread :) I think I did for something to look forward to perhaps.
Similar to @LadyC hoping to see the Xmas markets in Vienna, (Dec) along with Paris, London and some time in USA . Those are maybe they will happen.
Husband is hoping for Denmark in Sept.
Under the really not likely list is USA in June or before.
This year we were hoping to do a few two nights away from home just meandering. Hoping we can do some of those from March/April next year ( don't like the car travel in the heat)
My travel in the past has been a bit more spontaneous than back in the beginning.
When we could first afford to do an overseas holiday we planned for 18 months in advance. Almost to the last detail. This planning now just reminds me of that :)
Thanks for the thread @LadyC

I doubt we will do too much travel first half of 2021. If the vaccines happen and the world starts opening up, I wouldn't mind a trip to Cook Islands and perhaps an Asian swing through Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Borneo with a touch of Singapore in there somewhere. Hmm even writing that downs makes me think about what points I need to have in place to be able to redeem those flights.

After having to cancel the 2nd part of my OWA for May 2020 I had optimistically booked another one to start in May 2021.

Booked flights are for Singapore to Europe & back to Perth with flights for 2022 yet to be booked. In my mind there is a 99% chance I will be cancelling the booked flights & 1% chance I will be adding the 2022 flights to the itinerary.

Let’s call this an aspiration rather than a plan. A tour of Romania Moldova Ukraine and onto Belarus that had to be cancelled in 2020, followed by some time in England visiting the main cathedrals. Then on to the French Alps to visit newfound relatives, a visit that I had to cancel at the last minute this year.

I think all my 2021 travel will be domestic. Once the summer is over I plan to hop in the car and do lots of road trips. In the unlikely event that we can travel overseas I will be planning a white christmas somewhere. My friend in London is whinging about the stuff I left behind last year that I said I'd be back for in 2020. HUH

Domestic does nothing for me, inability to escape work, family and everyday life, may as well stay where you live. Going oversea's changes my mindset and allows me a break.

Nothing big in 2021, but need something to look forward to, thinking a week mid Sept in a deemed 'safe' SE Asian country, maybe:
*Cambodia - Phnom Penh, or
*Malaysia - KL and Penang, or
*Thailand - Mae Hong Son loop in a scooter from Chiang Mai

IF we can travel and IF vaccinated, best case, open borders to and from Australian government approved countries (should be most of SE Asia close to Australia, maybe excluding Indonesia) no quarantine either way, worst case, no quarantine to visit said oversea's country, but 7 days home quarantine on return to Australia, test on return, another after 7 days then free. I could live with that.

USA, Europe, India, heavily infected area's look at in 2022.

Hopefully by June Scomo, Greg Hunt & his buddies will give us approval and instructions as to how travel will work. Expecting lots of airport COVID testing in 2021 though.

Road trip in Feb from Melbourne to South coast NSW. Merimbula, Eden etc. 2 weeks by the beach essentially.

Might then head overseas to Hobart for a long weekend around Easter.

Will plan to follow that with a week at the beach on Sunshine coast QLD early winter.

That's as far as we've got. If totally safe travel bubbles and vaccines have emerged then I'll seriously think about a week in Fiji around August.

We are planning on some travel and have our fingers crossed.
Early next year is easy.Mrsdrron will be visiting me in Tassie and a weekend at Saffire has been booked.

Then on April fools day it is hopefully off to WA.Going to do the silo trail,Margaret river,Ningaloo and Geraldton for a crayfish tour.

In August we are booked to go to Singapore and Bangkok.Basically booked as we were meant to do this at Christmas this year.Flights booked with Mrsdrron's krisflyer points which were due to expire in feb this year so changed dates.Still give us a slight chance of going. We are both eligible for an early vaccination. Will depend on us and Thailand opening borders.

And at some stage a road trip to NSW to see our grandkids and to visit Portland to see the art in the old cement factory.Portland has a place in my heart as my favourite uncle and aunt lived there and I spent quite a few school holidays there. Was even able to travel by myself on the old steam trains and going over the zig zag tracks.

Back in June I booked a trip to Frankfurt for June next year.. unlikely that'll happen. Was a F award

Also booked Japan for Nov next year.
Fingers crossed for that one
