2021 Travel Plans

Status run in J BNE - CNS sometime before 31 July.

I token trip BNE - SYD - BNE to make up the 4 sectors for requal.

On the international wish list I am open to anywhere without quarantine in either direction.

I did see today that Rydges have vacancies for NYE @ Sydney Harbour in the $400 range so was tempted.
I have booked a week in SYD late January to see the grand daughters before school resumes then 5 or 6 weeks in Merimbula (with a side trip to SYD for a wedding) spanning Feb / Mar.
May should see us catch a train in BNE for a week at Longreach.
So far that's it.

I have SYD-SIN-CPT booked on six different days next year. Whatever happens I’ll need to take one of them! But it would be nice to be able to leave and then come back.

Probably not a lot of travel this year for us. I'm planning on using most of my saved up leave for when we move mid next-year. But I do have a little list of things to do. If I can find somewhere to stay I'd like to surprise MrD with a trip to Temora for the warbirds show. I have never been to the Dubbo zoo. Little trips like that.

We are planning a driving holiday to South Australia with three other couples In April-May. The guys are car friends, and we will be in vintage sports cars.
Definitely keeping things in Australia next year, and currently thinking of possible destinations, although we have been everywhere.
We may revisit central Australia and the top end.
Like many people we know, we will avoid Queensland for the foreseeable future.

Hawaii if we’re allowed. ie if Australia was included in their pretest program and we didn’t have to quarantine on return.
Otherwise FNQ for a winter break.

#1 son and family have just escaped sfo for a break on Hawaii.
No feedback yet so not sure where they are.
Universal mask wearing is mandated but some exceptions for remoter areas I believe

Have registered for 2 major competitions - in New Mexico and then British Columbia late August/early Sept 21. (Simply because registration opened this month, and if you wait even a month you are likely to miss out - they sell out, and quickly) These are both refundable or transferable. "Match Hotel" bookings made - all refundable. I am not all that hopeful I will actually be able to go, but I don't see the point of being overly pessimistic and not even planning to travel.... If you do THAT then you are definitely NOT going! ;)

👍👍 I concur. I've booked flights only. Hotels can wait

My travel plans in 2021 no longer involve flying QF in 2021 given the latest status extension announced today, but now I'll need to find some options to maintain Velocity status...

We’re starting 2021 back up at Port Douglas for five nights where we’ll see in the new year.

Late March we’re off to Tassie and our first motorhome holiday. 11 nights. It’s changed from free style and staying in National Parks to having every night booked at a powered site (and one lodge night). Wusses! Coles Bay - Launceston - Cradle Mountain - Strahan - Pedder Wilderness Lodge - Cygnet (Fat Pig Farm feast) - Bruny Island.

July and we fly to Broome. We have a couple of nights in an Airbnb before joining our 15 day Intrepid Broome to Darwin overland. Going with my sister who like us had a credit from our cancelled Botswana overland. Amazingly they have just four seats left on just the first of this tour next year. The rest are all sold out.

Now we also need to book another weekend away, maybe October long weekend, to get that status rolled over.

In 2021, I am planning to catch the first direct flight between Sydney and Hong Kong once the borders on both sides are reopened, as well as numerous trips between Sydney and Melbourne for work.

Thankfully we now have the Qantas Status Fast Track promotion so that I will be able to fast track my status to Gold Qantas in 2021 and 2022 for more baggage allowance so that I can bring more stuff from Hong Kong to Australia and avoid paying the stupid GST for inferior products here in this country.

Domestic does nothing for me, inability to escape work, family and everyday life, may as well stay where you live. Going oversea's changes my mindset and allows me a break.

Nothing big in 2021, but need something to look forward to, thinking a week mid Sept in a deemed 'safe' SE Asian country, maybe:
*Cambodia - Phnom Penh, or
*Malaysia - KL and Penang, or
*Thailand - Mae Hong Son loop in a scooter from Chiang Mai

IF we can travel and IF vaccinated, best case, open borders to and from Australian government approved countries (should be most of SE Asia close to Australia, maybe excluding Indonesia) no quarantine either way, worst case, no quarantine to visit said oversea's country, but 7 days home quarantine on return to Australia, test on return, another after 7 days then free. I could live with that.

USA, Europe, India, heavily infected area's look at in 2022.

Hopefully by June Scomo, Greg Hunt & his buddies will give us approval and instructions as to how travel will work. Expecting lots of airport COVID testing in 2021 though.
I am totally with you local travels don’t excite after monthly international travels for the last several years for personal leisure not for business.

We've just booked to spend the first week of January in Alexandra Headlands.
In April, we've got tickets to Hamilton in Sydney.
In June, we've got tickets to Harry Potter in Melbourne. Thinking about changing the date of those tickets so that we can go to the Film Festival in Winton in June/July.

We've put off the Tour de France trip from this year to 2022 now.

I hear you, but If you think outside the square, there are some great domestic options. Have a look at Christmas Island and Lord Howe Island.

We are about to book our first overseas 2021 travel plan. Hello Tasmania.
Our flights to and from have been rescheduled over the last four days. Thursday night flight down moved over four hours. Called and initially changed it to the early Jetstar flight as the direct QF flight offered got us there too late to pick our campervan. Then realised no points, scs or seat selection. Better to book JQ direct. Called straight back and they agreed to cancel and refund as initial flight offered was more than four hours different. Today flight back to MEL moved back an hour. This is good for us though as the connection to our BNE flight was tight. As RooFlyer has said, get that hire car organised!

Well in April 2020 I actually booked SQ J to HKG, and then JL J to NRT, for April 2021.

Then SQ decided to cancel our flights a month ago. My dreams have been dashed.

Have you seen the issue of rental car availability, in other threads? (Unless you are making it a road trip ...)
To be honest I have no idea of what you are talking about, within our family my job is to organise flights and transfers/ driver cars 😜 the rest is up to MrsM. I have no plans for a road trip, a drive to MEL and then get on ferry to TAS is not on the cards.

There is some person at QF called Oliver who has ensured that all the P1 types have membership to something called the "Avis President's Club" no idea what this is but sounds like another DYKWIA club. I am now thinking that either that Oliver and/or MrsM have just made this trip more complicated.
