2023 Hilton Status Retention

I stayed at the Hilton Surfers Paradise for one night on Monday 29 March 2023 for my status stay and the room had a stocked mini bar.

I did a status run over xmas and got diamond sometime in Jan - just got an email stating i have status until March-25. I thought it would only be until March-24, is this because I effectively hit diamond in in Jan-23?

My HH status dropped from Diamond to Silver a couple of days ago, and I have put in my VA WP > HH Diamond status request yesterday. No Hilton stays planned as I'm working on Accor Platinum/Diamond to replace Bonvoy Plat, but good to have it ready anyway. Will take HH status out to March 31, 2025.

Attainment and retention is based on the calendar year, so any nights/points/stays would need to be completed by Dec 31 for the following year. Note however that if you attain early in the year from a status match or similar - like my example above - then you may not need to do anything until the start of the following calendar year. 2023 will be my attain year, 2024 will be my retain year, and even if I don’t make it, then I get 3 bonus months to March 31 2025 before they take it away.

yup I think I'm in same boat. Done 10 nights, only 50 to go, even though I think I'll retain via the 120k base points before I hit 60 nights.

I stayed at a Hilton on 31st March but they they didn't let me retain my status. Sent and received a few emails about it (because some of them had very bad grammar in them) and I eventually got one that made sense and stated that I didn't qualify for status retention because I "finished" my stay after 31st March.
Anyone else sent emails to Hilton Honors and had replies with bad spelling, grammer, punctuation etc. It gives me the impression that I'm trying to communicate with people that have a limited knowledge of English.

Yep, I got no flexibility on my status match challenge - they delayed approving the start of the challenge until after my booked stay, despite applying weeks before, so I was short on those nights to keep Gold... they wouldn't backdate or count it..

I will probably never stay at Hilton again as a result, have stayed at Marriott and QT/Rydges since, so a bad outcome for them!

Yeah, unfortunately most Hilton promos require you to check out before the promo ends, even if you had nights within the promo.

I’m thinking of using the Hilton Diamond upgrade benefit offered by VA Plat instead of doing mattress runs to qualify this year. Does anyone know whether my existing diamond membership would just extend for another year if I were to use the VA benefit or do I need to create a new Hilton membership and get VA to upgrade that to diamond then merge the 2? I need to do it by Aug this year too, hence the complications

Why not wait until current one has expired?

I don't expect that the VA-applied upgrades count as a means for re-qualification, rather you would need to wait until your status drops back a level, and then have the upgrade applied. This said, it seems your membership year with VA is ending in August (or July?) and you don't expect to retain Platinum, so the HH account wouldn't have changed by then to do this.

HH does offer information on how to merge accounts (see link here), so that option could be your best one - i.e. create a new account with HH and do the match to that one, before combining / merging the old into the new. Here's what it confirms about that, on the relevant page within Profile:

You might consider changing the email on the current HH account and opening the new one with the same email address as your VFF.

It’s mentioned in the linking process to have the same email address. My VA Gold to HH Gold went through in a couple of days last month (same email on both).

Nice. Any others in particular? IHG was a gimme with the SM + Ambassador . Accor is, well Accor. Marriott and Hyatt are useful and a lot easier outside Oz!
