2023 Soccer Women's World Cup Discussion

Ms Solid who is 3 is a Matilda, My wife and I were discussing the other day whether it will be a popular baby name next year.
NIce to see the resurgence in traditional names but I reckon "Sam" might be the name on every other registry document. ;)

You're right but that isn't the case according to FIFO Albo who reckons the premiers will fold like tents. Must be his steely gaze. ;)
I reckon that's why SA Premier announced it today. So it's a done deal. Little bit insulting telling Australia they will fold like tents! That's a call surely to do the opposite. Mods, not political, as both SA Premier and PM are on the same team, just very different styles, etc etc.

Oh. I have a Sam. His Middle name. The Matilda I know is about 30, has a sister Olivia. Nice trad names.

Well done to the soccer team but the netball team ALREADY won a World Cup...barely raised a ripple in the media or with pollies...

Wouldnt be trying to deflect attention from the voice, homelessness, interest rates etc etc...

Some of the Matildas have been a bit pointed, and I can't quote what was said, suffice to say they reckon bugga the PH how about some funding for women's sport.

Watching the Spain v Sweden match on 7 Mate. Not as flowing a game as the Matildas style. I am no women's soccer expert nor soccer generally, just my observation.

I have the tickets to the Final this Sunday so I am really hoping that Matildas wins tomorrow night.
Same here, just booked some flights on VA as well, award space finally opened up on Sunday afternoon (working from 5am...). Will be a rush to the airport in Melbourne then from the airport to Homebush but it's a World Cup final so I'm pretty excited no matter who plays in it.

That said, first I have a rush to the airport after work tomorrow morning to get up to Sydney for the semi final. Exciting few days coming up.

Spain up in Auckland!

Sweden equalised in 87th minute. Spain just gone one up in 89th minute. 7 minutes extra time to play.

Some of the women referees are good. You get the hand signals followed up with "the look".
Spain women fall over alot.

....... Spain won 2:1

I hope no delays or cancellations for you! This is once every 50 years event in Australia!

I am glad I am just driving there from my home. Already booked my parking tickets.

A flurry of goals

Gosh my son ducked out to get pizza at nil all. Home inside 20 mins 2-1. A cracker of a winning goal

As for large sports scoring govt $
Always flabbergasts me they need it. Plenty of cash churning inside elite sport and gate sales and beer at the Test - they don’t need taxpayer support

I have been watching the Matildas for longer than i thought. I was in Tasmania working so was able to watch the Matildas win the Asian Cup. It surprised me that was way back in 2010. Here is a picture and you can recognise some of the current team. The first goal was scored by Sam Kerr.
