2023 Travel Plans

G adventures, possibly lower end of budget but they had a deal that as they say I couldn’t turn down and I’m not afraid of a bit of roughing it. Not that it’s that rough, 3 or 4 star hotels with some yurt camps and home stays but am quite looking forward to that part. Of course looking forward to the QR flights too!
Sounds great. I'll keep an eye out for your trip report. :)

Is this the tour?

Is this the tour?
That's the one! But I got it for 25% off so even with single supplement it was just over $6K, very reasonable.

Code via a newsletter or just right time/right place?
Right time and place though I subscribe to Tourradar (which incidentally gave another 3% off) and they regularly feature discounted tours. From what I read there are fairly regular discount available at G adventures (and others) throughout the year. Mine was in Jan so with any luck there will be other offers soon.

Well now I have travel plans! Using DSC I will be visitng Japan again in Jan/Feb 2024. With the SC roll over expected as my final bit of status support, this alone is enough to maintain my WP. I know the travel isn't until 2024, but I will be planning the travel in 2023, so I put it in this thread to make me feel like I will be going somewhere exciting this year even though I'm not 😆
😆
And feeling rather happy that as soon as the DSC offer ended, QF offered a Japan Sale - and the discount business seats I booked for DSC were only a total of $300 less on the sale! I feel like I just had a win!

I'm not sure how I only just noticed this ... but there are currently direct flights on BA to LJU (Ljubljana). Fairly pricy in economy but a good use of Avios. I must have missed the announcement, as when I had a trip booked to visit in May 2020 it was a flight to SZG and then rental car down there.

Flying back to the UK today, pondering maybe going there at some stage in the next week before I head off to Israel (depart in a week's time for that one). Ponder, ponder.

Trying to beat the Australia Tax and decided to get up to Bali and then take a business class flight from there to LHR and open jaw it back from Rome.

Decided to book it for Mrs FBs birthday instead, locked in.

Good luck

Still waiting on my Speedway World Cup ticklet, but everything else booked and paid for. Poland and London July/August.

Also just booked 6 nights in Bali day after ANZAC Day. 2 nights Legian and 4 nights Ubud. Not long................................

Less than Three Months to go for me, until my SYD-HNL-LAX-SYD , 5 nights in HNL and also a road trip to Vegas for 3 Nights.
Staying at the Hilton Waikiki on a combination of a reward night+cash. In Vegas staying at the Mirage for a final time , before it's remodeled into the next Hard Rock hotel.

Slight changes for the second half of the year.
Prior to our cruise in November it will just be a few days in Yokohama.

Our Christmas trip with the family has been fleshed out. We meet them for a few days in Tokyo. As it is their first time in Japan it is a shinkansen ride to kyoto and then Osaka for Christmas. They then leave us on boxing Day to go to Niseko to ski. We will have a few days in Kanazawa to see the Kenrokuen gardens in winter and on new Years Eve fly to Bangkok to warm up for 3 weeks.

Unfortunately due to work and a couple of other factors our Europe trip in October had to be pushed back to March 2024.
A few weeks ago I booked BA J seats SYD-SIN with QF points but a few days back some SQ J seats ADL-SIN-BKK opened up so I booked them instead. I’m not a huge fan of the SQ A350 J seats but it’s a day flight and has us in BKK at dinner time which is much better that heading to SYD and then getting into SIN near midnight on BA. Plan is to spend a couple of days somewhere in the ME and then a few days in the UK to catch up with rellies before heading to Scandinavia and/or Switzerland. For the return I’ve booked AF J CDG-MRU and having a week in Mauritius with a car and then I’ve booked MRU-KUL-SIN-ADL on MK/SQ with AC points. Will spend a couple of days in KL on the way.
That unfortunately leaves not much international travel this year but Bali in 3 weeks time for a friends 50th where we took one for the team and are flying VA J ADL-DPS but when they come home we are heading over to Jakarta for a few days and then coming home GA CGK-MEL J on VS points. With a trip to FNQ in September for another 50th combined with football in Melbourne and Rugby in Sydney I’m not sure we can squeeze anything else in at this stage

We've added a Sunshine Coast trip to the schedule for December, as I had a free Amex flight expiring. Last chance to holiday as we please before Miss TomCat starts school next year 😭

Seems like everyone's having mid year changes, so just to join the bandwagon...

Trip to Hong Kong has been scrapped in November and rolled into a fairly rapid business/leisure trip beginning Sunday to London (3 nights), Nice (3 nights), Paris (1 night) and then Hong Kong (4 nights). Cancelled our CX PE and QF J reward seats. Now on QF economy and holding onto the slim hope of a points upgrade for those legs.
Very excited to try out some incredible hotels including the Pan Pac London and Four Seasons HK.
Not very excited about 36 hours travel time (Including 26 or so in the air) to get to London flying Qf to HK, then EK via BKK and DXB to Gatwick.
Somewhat oddly excited (??) to see what the high density EK A380 is like flying J behind ecomony on the upper deck betweek HK and BKK.

From what I believe QF in Syd should be able to print off all boarding passes and through check baggage even if separate QF and EK bookings? Referencing this QF help page https://help.qantas.com/support/s/article/Baggage-with-connecting-flights
