2023 Travel Plans

UK and France starts very soon.

The Dec/Jan trip is starting to take shape. have SYD-SIN-SYD legs sorted (in PE/Z) and now its SIN-UK-SIN and side trips to pursue.
Our UK/FR trip in April/May went well, with the main flights on QF1/QF10, and a side flight on BA LHR-CDG. The night ferry from Caen to Portsmouth was great fun also.

Now the main bookings for December/January are in place. QF Y+ classic rewards SYD-SIN-SYD. In SIN we connect to EK for SIN-DXB-MAN, and return LGW-DXB-SIN in J. We have also managed to slip in a side trip on BA LHR-OSL-LHR in Y with our daughter's family.

We've added trip to Thailand in September during school holidays.

Hoping to have Thai house-warming a few days after New Years Eve party. Wife has already started planning food etc.

We've added two more quick FNQ trips later in the year.
A wedding at Trinity Beach in mid-August and a weekend visit to Port Douglas in late October to stay with an ex-colleague and her husband who have bought a villa up there on Four Mile Beach.

Bali in two weeks. Very odd communication with the property that we're staying at in Ubud. Hopefully we have a reservation at The Sender Pool Suites when we arrive! Cancelled our LE booking at the Sofitel and now staying next door at Nusa Dua Beach Resort and Spa in a palace club room.

We are about to embark on a 4 month journey to UK and Europe. Trip was originally planned for 2020 but COVID changed that! Original trip was for 5 weeks as were were working then, but we have now retired so have extended to 4 months.

Flights are on QF points and we fly out 5 July QF51 BNE-SIN J then AF257 SIN-CDG J. Flights home in November are CX252 LHR-HKG F and then CX157 HKG-BNE J. The trip is partly planned and partly unplanned. We start in Paris, then up to Dunkirk, across to London, Liverpool and then 9 days driving around Ireland. From there we head to Edinburgh where our son lives and will base there for a month. We arrive late July and the Edinburgh Fringe festival will have just started, so we will spend time going to shows etc and exploring Edinburgh. Our son has got tickets to Scotland v France rugby union international in Murrayfield Stadium which I'm really looking forward to!

August is a free month and we will travel around Scotland (will borrow the kids car!) plus look at cheap fares to other places for short trips. In early September we head to Croatia for a 5 night Croatian coastal cruise, then Vienna, Budapest, Salzburg, Munich, Prague, Berlin, Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam and then back to Edinburgh. Travel around Europe is all by train.

We're arrive back in Edinburgh in early October but head back to Paris later in October for a couple of Rugby Union World Cup games. Between games we are going to do a road trip with the kids to Epernay, Dijon, Annecy, Lyon and then back to Paris. Back to Edinburgh for a few days and then down to London for a couple of days before we fly home 8 November.

I will try and do a trip report but I am a bit unreliable and tend to do it in spurts so there could be delays between updates!

To escape the Victorian winter our plans are a week on Magnetic Island in July ( DSC) and our 4 times rescheduled 2020 trip to Portugal CX/KLM on points in J with an overnighter each in Haarlem and HKG before QF30 back home.
Waiting for next DSC to drop to plan 2024 🤗

Off to Germany (mainly in the Bavarian alps region) for 2.5 weeks in September. Will be in Munich when Octoberfest kicks off (pure coincidence).

Managed to snag SYD-MEL-SIN-HEL-FRA in J (mixture of QF and AY) a few months back (Classic Reward). Return leg was lucky enough to get MUC - SIN in F (EK - A380) (Classic Reward). Had to buy an el cheapo Scoot Plus from SIN to SYD

I've got a few KrisFlyer points (that I transferred from Velocity in 2020 when I thought VA was going belly up) that will expire later this year. A bit over 100K so looking for a cheapo SE Asia trip for the two of us. 30K points gets me one way to a lot of destinations so thinking of Vietnam/Cambodia - haven't been to either before. So the research begins!

February: Lord Howe for 4 nights
March: Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Istanbul for 3.5 weeks
May: Hobart 3 nights
June: Malaysia 2 weeks
October / November: Rwanda / Tanzania for 2.5 weeks

Trying to find more leave to squeeze more trips in. ;)
...adding Hel in Sep 23 for a conference with a side trip hol to Stockholm and Tallinn :) ....getting back to pre Covid days when I did 5-6 OS trips per year. :)
...and overnight trip to Auckland in August as a status run to maintain Qf platinum (Dble SCs promo)

Have already booked 2 trips in 2024 but will leave that for the 2024 thread :)

Depends how long you want to spend travelling, you can do Cambodia in a little less time I'd say. We are heading there in September. Vietnam we did a few years ago but 2 weeks wasn't enough, we had a 2nd crack at it booked but ended up cancelled due to COVID.

Yes I was thinking of it as a mainly Vietnam trip with a side trip to Cambodia.

I'll be in Cambodia (and Nam) in September.
I'm planning to visit Cambodia in August (using up my KrisFlyer miles) so I'll just miss you... My friend in MEL gave me the contact of a local guide so let me know if you'd like me to share it with you?

We are taking a short trip to visit the family on the Gold Coast in early August. It will be a nice change from the winter cold in Canberra. Seat Son (lives in Dubai) is coming out for a 2 week visit and is bringing his lovely GF who has not met any of the family yet except for Mr Seat 0A and me when we visited Dubai over Christmas. So she will get the full family chaos - let's see if she runs out of the room screaming....

I got 4 x Y classic rewards seats in both directions for us, so that has saved big $$$. Would have preferred J, but a big ask for that many award seats, so happy to get the ones I got.
